Chapter 23: Sleep Well

This is most likely the very last chapter on this book. It was made for fun, and fun I gave and received. Thank all if you guys for the loyalty, patience and support I needed. My family is falling apart and every single one of you guys helped me out.

Farewell everyone! I'll miss you all! I'm so grateful for having you guys here. And if you're lucky, the new chapter for Poppy playtime might get me writing again.

In due time we'll see, but for now, farewell.

I feel like this is a bit rushed but oh well.

Dripping with beads of sweat, I panicked. All the memories, the torture. Every little thing is been through was coming back for more. For the smallest yelp, to the biggest cry for help. All that time I tried to spend healing and move on, vanished.

I cried out, collapsing. My eyes shot open, I was with Catnap, attempting to walk. Wiping the sweat off my forehead, I realised that it was just a flashback from the gas.

He held me, holding me in place so I could try to get the movements right. Right foot, left foot, right foot and so on. I sighed, this was never going to work.

"Catnap.. look thanks for h-helping but this neve-" I yelped, he pushed me. I was stumbling but was somehow managing to stay upright. Right foot, left foot. I was finally walking!

I searched for something to put my weight on, Catnap. I clenched onto his shoulder, slowing down my pace to really take in what was happening. I took a few deep breaths.

"I..I was walking! D-Did you see that!? I finally did it!"

I felt like a giddy child who just found out how to ride a bicycle, wide grin, rosy cheeks and playful attitude. I felt relief like never before, all that grief, all that pain. Finally I was being rewarded the happy ending I so desperately needed.

Starting again, he nudged me to get me started. From stumbling to walking to running, I had finally gained my movement back! I couldn't tell if Catnap shared the same joy as me, just smiling.

I hoped he did.

We sat down for a rest, at least for me.

"You know... I really missed you.." I choked back a sob, now realising that we still needed to talk about this. He looked over slightly.

"Did...Did you m-miss me?.."

He paused for a moment, thinking of an answer. Instead, he placed a paw over my shoulder, looking down and pulling me close.

"Yes."

I smiled, feeling that fuzzy feeling again before this nightmare happened, oh..

"Do you still love me..?"

He froze. Not daring moving a single muscle, as if it would kill him. After a minute or so, he sighed.

"You don't know.. do you?"

He shook his head.

"No."

I was trying to holdback tears, my ears flopping down as I tried to ignore the pain and heartbreak eating away at me.

"W-We should continue walking...."

The walk was awkward and dead silent. I still had so many unanswered questions. Why did he do it? Why didn't he help me? Where are the others? What happened?

He stopped walking, he seemed to know this place.

He held me behind him as he let out a huge puff of gas, flooding the whole room, I held my nose.

He was chasing someone! Was it the employee from before?

It was.

I watched his figure turn into a skinny and starved version of himself, a wide agape mouth with piercing eyes. He crawled up the elevator, set on following the employee. I waved at the gas, trying to shoo it off.

Finding a mask on the ground, I grabbed it and darted, struggling to put on the mask. I started to panic, wondering what was going on and why.

Hearing the familiar flicks of fire and a scream like no other, I lost it. Rushing out the elevators doors to see Catnap bowing down to a claw.

I gasped, utterly confused and shocked. Then.. it killed him. I lost my breath. My adrenaline rushing. I started to tear up and hoped this were fake. My legs started trembling as I fell to my knees.

He was gone.

The employee walked out the room, was this their fault? What happened?..

I didn't know what to do, one minute he was alive and the next, his body was being dragged to an unknown location.

I broke down, sobbing violently into my knees. I'd rather be hanging up still then this.

After what seemed like forever, I wiped my tears and tried to find him, hoping he was alive, did he give himself up or was he betrayed?

Using the items around the room, I had made a tower to climb into a empty space.

I gasped, Catnaps body was left on the ground, the claw no where to be seen.

The dread returned as I ran to him, tears falling uncontrollably down my face. Grasping onto him as hard as I could, I let it all out.

Screaming and sobbing into his chest. The only thing that made me happy again was gone forever. My heart sank. This was the worse state I was in.

I realised he was still a bit warm, so with an inch of hope I reached at his chest to look for his pulse.

A faint heartbeat! I could still save him somehow!

I looked for anything to help him, till I remembered he had bandages with him, the ones he used to heal me.

I grabbed them and started wrapping it around his jaw,as well as patching up some bruises, cuts and burns. I waited and hoped for any sign of life from him. I'd manage to stop his bleeding. Luckily I could hear faint breathing from him, please wake up.

I awoke, how long has it been? I stretched, letting out a sad yawn while rubbing my baggy eyes. I noticed Catnap was holding onto me, he wasn't like that before.

"C-Catnap?.."

No answer.

I sighed in defeat. He was probably in a coma of some sort. I just held him back, hoping that somehow he'll wake up.

His ear twitched! He was alive! I sat up and shook him.

"Catnap!?"

He slowly opened his eyes, groaning with pain.

"Catnap!!"

I held him so tight that now I'd probably kill him from lack of oxygen. I started crying again, grateful and happy that he was well and alive!

"I-I nearly lost y-you.. I was so scared you wouldn't c-come back" I choked between words and he grabbed onto me.

I just held him and kissed him, whether he didn't know if he loved me or not. He was kissing me back!

I pulled away, tears and a huge grin on my face.

"I love you Dogday." He breathed.

After tons of crying and talking, we had drifted of to a well needed deep sleep.

"Sleep Well Dogday."

Then they got married and had kids. Absolute cinema.
