We pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant, and I stepped out of the car, locking it after Vic got out. I pocketed my keys and wallet I began walking towards the restaurant. I slipped my hand into Vic's as we made our way inside, and Vic smiled.
"Hello," The hostess said. "Table for two?" She asked, glancing down at our hands.
"No, actually. We're supposed to be meeting my dad. I believe he made a reservation." I said, formality showing in my voice.
Vic let out a small snicker, and I rolled my eyes and gave his hand a squeeze. I didn't get what was so funny about when I talked formally. I was so used to doing it with guests that it just seemed natural to me.
Before the hostess could speak again, I head my name being called.
"Kellin! Vic!" I heard my dad's voice.
I turned to see him sitting at a table not to far from the entrance.
"That would be him," I explained to the girl who was going to seat us.
We made our way to the table where my dad was as he stood up to greet us.
He brought me into a hug, and Vic dropped my hand as my dad pulled me into him. A frown appeared on my face as my dad made the hug to tight. Somethings up. My dad almost never hugged me, only when he was traveling or when something bad had happened."Vic!" He exclaimed with a laugh as he let go of me and engulfed Vic in his arms.
"It's feels like I haven't seen you in years!" He said to Vic as he ended the hug. Maybe he's drunk.
"You saw him a few days ago, dad." I said suspiciously.
"Well, time flies when you're old like me."He said as he sat in one of the chairs at our table. I frowned even more. My dad used to constantly boast about his youthful appearance and demeanour, I wonder what had changed.
Dinner went by smoothly, with very few snide comments from my father. We had just asked for the for the bill when I remembered that my dad had wanted to tell me something.
"Wait, dad. Didn't you have to tell me something?" I asked and my dad placed down some cash onto the bill. He had insisted on paying for Vic and I's dinner. Something about celebrating our relationship. As we walked out of the restaurant Vic slid his hand into mine.
"Um, yes." He replied, as we stopped in front of his car.
My dad looked nervous as he pulled his keys out of his pocket. He let out a large sigh as he looked me in the eye.
"Well, um," My dad never stumbled with his words. When I was younger he used to get insanely mad at me for doing it.
"I thought that you might be lonely in that apartment, since you never really have people over except for that Matthew boy," I heard Vic chuckle lightly. "And I thought I'd do something about it, because I didn't know that you have Vic." You have Vic. "So I got you a pet."
"You did what?"I said loudly. I'd never had a pet except for a fish when I was younger, but I accidentally flushed it down the toilet. (That's some finding nemo shit right there.)
"Two actually. A dog and a kitten." My dad said as he opened the door to his car and got in.
"Why would you do that?" I cried.
"You can thank me tomorrow when I drop them off. Goodbye Kellin, goodnight Vic." He said.
"Goodnight, sir." Vic said with a smile as my dad closed the door. He drove off and left Vic and I standing in the middle of the parking lot. My mouth hung open as I watched my dad drive off. I can't believe he'd do something like that.
