I didn't proof-read Sorry!!!
Chapter 13
I rushed into the family room with Eva on my tail. Everyone was in a panic.
"How could she have gotten him from right under our noses?"
"Someone needs to be checking security tapes!"
"Mr. Auturro is already looking into it."
I sat down and hid my face in my hands. I thought I really had a chance. I thought I had shown Anne that I was a strong person when I had made that phone call. But as usual she had to raise the stakes. Until she couldn't anymore.
"Addy?" Eva kneeled in front of me. Her eyes were red and her cheeks were blotchy.
"Yeah?" I said softly.
"Addy, I need you to bring him back. I- I can't..." another set of tears rolled down her face.
I pulled her into a hug and squeezed tight until her trembling cries stopped. Then I held her shoulders and gave her a small smile. "Luke is going to come home. We're gonna get him, okay?"
She nodded and I got up to face the room. Everyone was watching me.
"Does anyone know when this note came? A time frame maybe?" I held up the little note.
"She had to have taken him around lunch time." Kat said.
"Right when you were on your little lunch date." Caden muttered.
I didn't spare him a second glance. I felt like Luke's kidnapping was all my fault now. It was as if Anne waited for the exact moment of my falter to strike. Dad's english- speaking head of security walked into the room then. In his hand was several photos enlarged.
"We checked the time frame Mr. Auturro gave us and found that just two minutes after Ms. Adelaide left for lunch, our cameras went out." he said.
"You had a maintenance issue?" Jonathan frowned.
"No. Someone shut all our systems down for exactly one minute. When the cameras came back on, there was a person in all black seen leaving the note. By the looks of it, the person was definitely male and of reasonable height. In the background I noticed another figure, not clear but definitely there."
I nodded. "Anne sent her people. No way she was taking Luke without help."
Another round of sobs came from Eva as Papá comforted her. People gave her sympathetic looks.
"But why Luke? I mean no offense but Luke is your sister's boyfriend not yours, Addy. He has really nothing to do with you. If she was trying to cut you down wouldn't she kidnap your sister or your own boyfriend?" Jonathan stood next to me.
I swallowed hard at the word 'boyfriend' because to be honest I didn't even know if I still had one. I nodded as I took in Jonathan's theory. It would've made a lot more sense to have taken Caden or Eva. Anne had to have needed Luke for something. But what?
"Luke and I are married." Eva announced so softly I almost missed it.
No one spoke a word. Papá's face hardened as he stared at my sister. By looks of it, he obviously had no idea that a wedding had even occurred. I was too shocked to speak. Eva looked around at everyone, her eyes landing apologetically on Papá. He wouldn't meet her gaze.
"Papá I'm sorry, we were going to tell you." she said but Papá had already walked out the room.
She turned to me, stood up, and grasped my hands. "Addy, we can't leave him with her. If she hurts him or even kills him..." her eyes pleaded with mine to understand.
