Chapter 19

There was a loud crash from downstairs. It sounded like it came from the kitchen.

"What was that?" Jonathan whispered and moved to the window. He jumped from the window with a panicked expression. "Get Down! Mov-"

Something came crashing through the window, shattering glass everywhere. It rolled under the chair and made a whoosh sound. Gas started pouring around the chair. Everyone sprung into action.

"Guys we need to leave. Now." I opened the door and ran the hallway hearing the others follow. Gas was already filling the hall. I balled up the front of my shirt over my nose and mouth and kept my head high. I felt someone pull my arm gently but firmly behind me.

"Something moved down there." Jonathan whispered in my ear.

I nodded and motioned for him to wait. The person up ahead was checking rooms. The individual wore all black with a gas mask on and a silenced m-16 rifle in their hands. I slowly moved toward them ignoring Jonathan's pleading not to. Just as the rifleman spotted me, I kicked his hand sending the gun flying. The man stretched for me but I ducked. He saw that coming and sent a kick. I moved out of the way a fraction too late. His foot connected with my shoulder. Hard.

I yelled and grabbed his arm. I pulled his arm behind him and put him in a choke hold. Just then another masked man came down the hallway. He aimed his gun at me trying to get a shot where he wouldn't hit his own man. I pulled a gun out of the rifleman's holster and shot the mask man in the leg. Twice. He yelled out and fell down. his gun flew out his hand. I pressed down on the space between the shoulder and neck, making the rifleman go unconcious. Then I pushed him off me and got up. Flexing my shoulder that screamed pain, I looked back out my friends were simply stared at me.

"That was freaking incredible." Jonathan came over to me and rubbed my shoulder. When I flinched he looked worried. I shrugged him off and started down the hall again. I needed to get to my room to get my gun.

When we finally made it through my room, I pulled everyone in and closed the door. My room hadn't been touched. Kat was coughing and fanning herself and Caden was trying to calm her down. Jonathan noticed.

"When you guys worked for Anne you didn't go through things like this?" he asked them.

"We were more... behind the scenes." Caden muttered. I took the black key out of the bottom drawer and went into my closet. I took out a thicker pair of leggings, pulled on a dark grey long sleeved shirt and a pair of black combat boots. Then I loaded my mother's gun and stuffed it into the boot after praying it didn't blow off my foot. I was satisfied after seeing that there wasn't really a bulge in my foot.no one would know the gun was there.

I put the case in the box of stuff my mother left me and put it in my small safe in the bottom of my closet. I stuffed the safe with clothes just in case of anything. Then I locked it and stood up. Back in my room everyone awaited my instructions by the looks of it.

"Okay look," I started, "I think Anne went back on me. She's here now and she's looking for me."

Caden look confused. "What do you mean she went back on you?"

I played with my locket as ideas formed in my head. I needed to find my dad ASAP. Telling the truth now wouldn't do any good now anyway.

"Don't worry about that just-"

"What! No. You can't keep things like this to yous-"

"Shut up Caden! Last time I checked I'm not the only one keeping secrets." I snapped.

That shut him up instantly. He even looked hurt for a second. I didn't register the guilt because just then someone threw a gas bomb in my room and closed the door. We were running out of time. The gas started taking the oxygen out of the room. We needed to get out. Like now.

I looked around my room for an escape when an idea came to me.

"Everyone come on. Now." I led everyone into my closet and shut the door. I ignored all their questions and walked to my coat rack. I used my phone to skim the wall for the hollow part. Then I tapped softly and listened.

"Yes." I smiled when I found it. I tapped lightly and the inner keypad lit up.

"What the hell?" Kat whispered.

I typed in the code my dad told me. A green light came on just as a crash came from my room. Then the wall moved inward.

"Woah." Jonathan gasped.

I pushed open the secret elevator and pulled everyone in with me. It closed and locked making itself hidden again. I put in another code that only my father and I knew that sent us to the same basement my dad's men had "kidnapped" us my first day here.

As the elevator went down I tried not to think about Gina and Eva and everyone else who wasn't here right now. I hoped they were okay. On the other hand I hoped Anne was just sending in people and not coming in herself.

"Okay, when did this get installed?" Kat motioned around the elevator.

I shrugged. "When my dad gave me the tour of the house he told me that if the house ever became compromised and he wasn't around to use this elevator and use the basement exit."

"When was this?" Caden asked.

I gave him a hard look. "When you weren't around."

The door opened and we were met with a long corridor with recessed floor lights. It was really nice and not scary like most basements. We ran down the hallway and turned down one corridor with a door at the end. When we pushed opened the door we were momentarily blinded by a bright white light. After we got use to the brightness we saw everything.

My dad had an army of his men moving around in every direction. It was like a huge warehouse. There were cars, weapons, exits to his planes, and an area just for conference purposes.

"Wow it's like a whole different world down here." someone commented.

I didn't pay much attention because my eyes were locked on my dad. I ran over to him, knocking some guys down by accident, and threw my arms around him. I tried not to flinch when he squeezed my bad shoulder. I flexed both shoulders so he wouldn't ask questions.

"You made it safe. I was ready to send my men for you." my father said during our embrace. Behind him were the actual men he was about to send.

"Where's Eva? And the twins? And Everyone?" I asked frantically.

My father looked calm but not happy. "I sent men after them. I didn't see anyone on my way down here. Did anyone see you?"

I shook my head. "Just these three I bought with me. There are men throwing gas bombs everywhere and raiding each room. I used the secret elevator in my closet just before they came in my room."

He looked at Jonathan, Caden and Kat. "You three alright?"

They nodded in unison.

"Good. Good. What else do you know?" he said looking back to me.

I bit my lip. Now would be a great time to tell him about the deal I made with Anne. And how she went back on that deal by coming here today. But knowing my father he would keep me in his sights until he had Anne's head in his hands. So I came up with a different idea. I lied.

"Nothing. I encountered two men so I know that they're armed."

My father shook his head and ordered his men to bring us some food and some jackets.

I needed to find a way to get to Anne. And soon.
