Chapter 18

I woke up the next morning to someone shaking me. I knew it was still early because my body felt completely drained and weak. I squinted at the person shaking me. They stopped back and watched me. I rubbed my eyes and got up slowly. Something was holding me down and when I looked I saw that Jonathan had his arm across my stomach holding me down. Somehow in the middle of the night this happened as well as me becoming pants-less and him becoming shirtless. I frowned and removed his arm.

Turned out it was Caden actually waking me up. I stood in front of him with only a t-shirt.

"What's wrong?" I yawned and put my hair in a messy bun. I slipped in a pair of leggings and headed towards my bathroom motioning for Caden to follow. He stayed outside the door.

"I wanted to talk to you." he said.

I put toothpaste on my toothbrush and glanced at the clock above the door. "At six in the morning?"

He shrugged in the mirror. "I didn't want everyone awake."

I finished brushing my teeth and washed my face. "Okay. Lead the way then."

I followed him upstairs to my father's "air room". It was a calming white room with soft ivory furniture and two large ballroom windows dressed with sheer white drapes that oversaw the beach below. Definitely one of my favorite rooms in the house. When the windows were open it was beautiful in here, especially when the wind would blow in and the drapes would dance and the sounds of the ocean could be heard. I sat in the couch across from Caden.

"What did you want to talk about? I asked him.

"How are you?" he asked concerned.

I gave him a weird look. "I'm fine. Why?"

He shrugged. "Just asking."

He fell silent and ran his hand through his hair roughly. I studied and noticed he looked slightly nervous. I leaned forward in my seat.

"What?" I asked.

He looked at me slightly startled. "What?" he echoed.

I sighed. "I know you didn't wake me up to ask me how I am, so just spill it."

"Are you dating Jonathan?" he asked rather bluntly.

I laughed. "No I'm not. Why? Jealous?"

He snorted but seemed a little more relaxed. "No. It's just that the morning I came to get you and you both were there an-"

"To be completely honest I have no idea how we ended up like that but nothing happened." I reassured him.

He nodded and fell silent again.

"Do you ever wonder why we even broke up?" he asked finally.

It throw me off guard considering what happened. I leaned back in the couch. "Why should I? You broke up with me."

"No you said you were done." he countered.

"With the argument."

His eyes widened a bit but he recovered quickly. "So you didn't break up with me? That's what you're saying?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Pretty much. But it's cool. I kinda figured you wanted that break up anyway. No one acts the way you did just because they weren't getting the attention they wanted."

Caden shot me a look. He almost looked frightened. "You think I had some ulterior motive to breaking up with you?"

Before I could answer, Kat walked in and stopped short when she saw us. "Oh sorry." she said. "I heard voices. I didn't know... Anyway sorry." she shot Caden a sharp look before turning and leaving us alone. The look was so fast I didn't think it was even real.
