It felt like the air had been sucked out of the room.
Arjun’s words—“I’m not her biological father”—echoed in my head, leaving me stunned.

How could he not be Ira’s biological father they look so much alike? I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. The revelation opened a floodgate of questions, but there was no time for them now.

The urgency in the doctor’s voice brought me back to reality.

“Ira’s condition is deteriorating rapidly,” he said grimly. “She needs the blood now, or we might lose her.”

“No,” I whispered, my voice trembling. The thought of losing Ira—my light, my anchor—was unbearable. She had come into my life like a ray of sunshine, pulling me out of my darkest days. The mere idea of a world without her was impossible to fathom.

Arjun’s jaw clenched, his body taut with tension. “I’m going to find the blood,” he said, his voice low but firm.

He turned to leave, but something inside me clicked. A memory from years ago flashed before my eyes, one I hadn’t thought of in a long time. My heart raced as I realized the answer was standing right here.

“Wait!” I called out, my voice louder than I intended.
Arjun froze, his hand on the doorknob, and turned to look at me, his eyes sharp and questioning.

“I… I can donate my blood,” I said, my words rushing out in a tumble.

“What?” Arjun’s brows furrowed, his disbelief evident.

“My blood group,” I explained, stepping forward. “It’s Bombay Blood Group.”

The room fell silent. For a moment, no one said a word, as if they were processing what I’d just said.

The doctor was the first to react. He shook his head firmly. “No, Mrs. Rajvansh, that’s not an option. You’re not in a healthy condition to donate blood. It’s too risky.”

Arjun’s expression hardened. “He’s right. You’re not doing it.”

“Please, listen to me,” I said, taking a step closer to him. “Ira needs this. She needs me. If I can save her—”

No.” His voice was sharp, final. “You’re not doing this. I won’t let you risk your life.”

Tears pricked my eyes, but I held my ground. “And I can’t let her die! How can I stand here and do nothing while she’s—” My voice cracked, and I swallowed hard, trying to steady myself. “Please, she’s my daughter too. I won’t lose her.”

He shook his head, his expression unreadable. “Meera, this isn’t up for discussion. You’re not strong enough. You’ve barely eaten, barely rested. Do you even realize what you’re saying?”

“I know exactly what I’m saying,” I shot back, my voice trembling with emotion. “Ira is everything to me. I’ll do whatever it takes to save her.”
