The car rolled to a gentle stop just outside Rajvansh Mansion. After days in Hyderabad, it felt… right to be home. Familiarity seeped into my bones as I stepped out first, rolling my shoulders, breathing in the late evening air.
Beside me, Meera climbed out, tying her dupatta properly around her shoulders, the ends fluttering in the soft breeze. Ayansh stretched like he had just escaped from prison.
Before I could even knock or ring the bell, the main door burst open.
"Arreeee, aa gaye humare hero-log!" Chachi's voice rang out first, beaming brighter than the mansion lights.
Ma came rushing next, wiping her hands hurriedly on her apron, her face breaking into the warmest, most radiant smile I had seen in days. Dad and Chachu followed, slightly more composed but clearly happy. Riya was bouncing behind them like an excited rabbit.
“Welcome back, mere bacchon!” Ma said, pulling Meera into a tight hug first. She kissed Meera's forehead, her eyes soft with affection. "Humne toh yeh soch rakha tha ki competition ke saath-saath tum log Hyderabad hi shift ho jaoge!" Chachi joked, ruffling Ayansh’s hair, who made a face and ducked.
"Ma yaar kitni baar kaha hai mere baalo ko maat chuo. Saara handsomeness kharab karne pe tuli hoti ho." Ayansh grumbled, dusting his hair exaggeratedly.
Dad gave them a firm handshake and a proud nod — his version of an emotional breakdown. “You did well, all of you,” he said, and though his words were few, they carried weight.
Riya ran straight into Meera and hugged her tight. “Tumhe kitna miss kiya humne, Meera! Sab ghar suna suna lag raha tha bina tumhare.”
"Mere bina iss ghar ki ronak hi chali jati hai iss liye kehta hu thodi kadar karo meri " Ayaansh says by raising his collars with a proud look on his face.
Riya give him 'Are you serious look' and tells " Tumse kon baat kar raha hai. Mein Meera se baat kar rahi hu."
Meera laughed and squeezed her back, her cheeks already flushed with happiness. "Main bhi sabko miss kar rahi thi," she said warmly.
Then came the loudest voice of all—a tiny one.
"Mummaaaaa!"
I looked down just in time to see Ira, our little hurricane, hurtling across the marble floor, arms stretched wide. Her hair was a mess, two pigtails bobbing madly as she ran. Meera immediately crouched down, opening her arms wide, and Ira practically flew into them.
