A year later

Song: Am I Dreaming, by Metro Boomin, ASAP Rocky, and Roisee.

It was Christmas. The streets were lit up by the life of East St.Vicent, the noise fused with music and the organism of dance existing in every particle of oxygen. The Crib family was gathered by the table, Owen and Nate serving the dishes, Aaron picking up his sock for a rap session, Jessi telling Nate that she would love to eat watermelon with chocolate because little Brody, their incoming baby, had said so, Goat telling everyone that Uncle Tims had lost his broomstick so this was crisis time, Ion chewing up his bag of potatoes and not minding a single thing around.

Traviz didn't like to take the trash out but sometimes you have to do the dirty job. He crossed the street and was ambling towards the trash baskets when he saw a small kid crouched by the curb. He had marks of dirt on his back, across his cheek, and on his forehead. Traviz placed the trash down and went over to the kid.

"Hey, buddy."

"No, no, no, no..."

Traviz crouched and held the little boy. How old was he? Eleven? Eight? Thirteen? He couldn't tell.

"Hey, hey, it's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you. What happened?"

The boy was choking in tears. "Mom... Mom and dad... They're gone, they're gone..."

Traviz chose not to question. Because it didn't matter.

"Buddy, are you hungry?"

"W-Who are you?"

Traviz smiled, tilting his head. "I'm Traviz with a z. And what's your name?"

"Kevin. With a K."

"Okay, Kevin with a K, let's get you some food. Can you walk?"

"I c-can't walk..."

Owen opened the door and walked towards them, frowning. "What's going on?"

Traviz picked the kid up and fixed his little gray jacket. "Phants, this is Kevin with a K."

Owen smiled. "Merry Christmas, Kevin."

Nate showed up by the door. "The hell you guys doing outside? Kissing again?? Wait, who's that kid?"

Soon the entire family was outside gathered around the child, who was too shocked to understand what was going on.

Traviz carried him to The Crib.

Because that's how it's supposed to be.

THE END.
