DAPHNE'S FEELS LIKE HER world of vivid colours has been submerged in dull and emotionless grey. She doesn't know what to think — she doesn't know if she can think. Her mind is a fuzzy void, a searing space where she relives the moment when Elliot's hand struck her across the face.

Daphne has never been put into a situation like this before. Sure, she's been on awful dates where the guy was awful and egotistical, and her boyfriend could never handle her desire for a career as strenuous as surgery, but no one has ever hit her. None of them have and Daphne doesn't understand what could go through his head to justify his actions.

It's like an out of body experience. From the moment she felt the pain against her cheekbone, every inch of what made Daphne Daphne, was stolen from her. She knows herself, but she doesn't feel that way anymore. Any drop of joy or happiness has been wrenched from her soul and Daphne can't help but wonder if she'll ever find that part of herself again.

The day after it occurred, Daphne was met with Elliot at her front door. There was a blooming bruise on her cheekbone, mauve and red-raw, and her eyes were swollen from the constant onslaught of tears. Elliot was crying too. Tears had streamed down his face as he blurted out rambles of apologies, explaining how he never intended to hit her and the rage had taken over his body before he could control himself.

Daphne had held him as he wept.

And she forgave him.

Although she feels like her life has been flipped upside down, Daphne knows it's her fault for it happening.

She never should've kissed Alex. It is wrong and Daphne knows she deserves to be chastised for what she has done. Elliot had every right to treat her terribly after what he had witnessed, and even though Daphne is aware that hitting someone is never the answer, she is also aware that her actions have consequences. The bruise on her cheek is a sign of that.
