MEREDITH IS IN A DARK PLACE. Well — no more than usual, that is, but it's different this time. She lacks any energy to get up and go to work, her job which she loves, so Daphne knows it's something else occupying her mind. Someone else, perhaps, as Derek and Addison's marriage is still going strong and he's not indicated that he'll be choosing Meredith anytime soon.

After entering Meredith's bedroom to find her still in pyjamas and hidden beneath the duvet, not in any rush to go to work, Daphne takes it upon herself to kick of shoes off and lay beside Meredith and coax out the problem with her, and maybe they could find a solution. George and Izzie stand before the bed, the Stevens with a box of cereal tucked between her arms, while Daphne lays in the bed, both of them perplexed with Meredith's decision to not go to the hospital.

"You have to go to work," Izzie states. "You're an intern. Saving lives is not optional."

"Yes, it is," Meredith retorts. "I'm staying home."

"C'mon, Mer, think of all the hot, bloody surgeries you could get in on!" Daphne encourages her. "Imagine missing out on all of that?"

Meredith remains silent. Izzie nudges George, who's been acting particularly weird this morning. "You're supposed to helping."

George approaches Meredith, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "Uh . . . Mer? Daphne's right. Maybe there'll be a horrible accident near the hospital. Cut a bunch of people open. Sternotomies, craniotomies. That'd be fun, right?"

"I don't care about surgeries!" Meredith snaps, shoving a pillow over her head and blocking them out.

So, Daphne calls in the big guns. Once she calls her and informs her of Meredith's decision not to go to work, Cristina appears in an instant. She stands before Meredith, a distasteful look on her face. "You have a . . . feeling?"
