ALEX'S APARTMENT IS WEIRD. While the home Daphne lives still, inwardly, belongs to Meredith Grey, it's much more homely than Alex's place. It's bare. The ivory-painted walls hold no photos, the floor is cold beneath Daphne's feet without any rugs, and the couch looks like he's hardly used it. There's no personal effects — it's simply furniture.
She walks around the small place, heading back towards his bedroom, feeling a shiver run down her spine. She'd stayed over the night before, still refusing to sleep with him, but merely enjoying the comfort of being held by someone who doesn't frighten her. While his apartment may be cold, Alex is not. His flesh radiates heat, and Daphne had slept peacefully through the night, not tortured with thoughts of Elliot. And though she feels the smallest amount of guilt at sleeping at another man's house while in a relationship, she also knows that Elliot doesn't feel remorse at what he did to Daphne. A man like him is incapable of experiencing guilt.
"Okay, so I went to go and make us breakfast, and you haven't got any food," Daphne says as she climbs back onto the bed, pulling the duvet over her legs and placing her head on his chest. "How do you live like this? Your locker at work has more personality than this place."
Alex shrugs, still a sleep-ridden look on his face and his hair sticks up in various places. "I only come here to sleep. I eat at the hospital. I occasionally sleep there. My whole freaking life is at that place."
"Yeah, but, what if you want a late night snack?" Daphne wonders, furrowing her brows. "Everyone craves a late night snack."
"Then I just go out and get one," Alex responds cleverly, and Daphne rolls her eyes.
"Oh, right, I forgot — the privilege of being a man. Being able to go out in the middle of the night when you want to," she remarks, and Alex shuffles down and peers at her, narrowing his eyes at her.
