THE ATMOSPHERE IN JOE'S bar is lively, considering most of the occupants are workers from the hospital, and Daphne would've figured they'd all be tucked in bed after a taxing day. Daphne herself would much prefer to be in her own bed, the TV blaring in front of her and a tub of ice cream in her lap, but — instead — she's sat with Elliot, listening him to rambling over something she doesn't care about.
Well, truth be told, she's not listening. Her head is resting in the palm of her hand as she fiddles with a singular fry between her finger, a faraway look in her irises. She can hear Elliot's voice in the background, but it's mostly tuned out and Daphne can think of a million other places she'd much rather be.
One of those would be with Alex, who's sitting right in her line of gaze at the bar, indulging in a bottle of beer on his own. She knows one thing for sure — she wouldn't be so bored if she was with him instead, listening to the sarcastic comments that fly from his mouth and finding amusement in calling him a jackass every five minutes.
"And then he had the audacity to say to me —Daph? Daphne, are even listening to me?" Elliot's fingers click in front of her face, and she snaps back to reality.
"Huh? Sorry, go on," she smiles quickly, sitting up straighter, but a thunderous expression has already passed over Elliot's face.
"You weren't even listening to me," he states, displeased.
"Yes, I was," Daphne insists.
"No, you weren't," Elliot retorts, becoming more vexed by the second. "What was I talking about, then?"
Daphne falls quiet. She can't answer because she doesn't know. But, so what if she wasn't listening? It wasn't anything of interest anyway, and she's exhausted.
