"I could really use a wish right now,"
- B.O.B (Airplanes)

----------

The bell rang and I raced out of History class. I met Darcy at the lockers, and after placing our books away and grabbing some food, we walked down to our usual table near the library. Reaching the stairs down to the table, I saw Athena and Rose Taylor already sitting down and chatting away happily. The second me and Darcy reached the table, the chit-chat stopped awkwardly. So, I started a new conversation,

"Are you guys doing anything this Friday?" I asked all three of them. Darcy replied,

"Mmm, I don't think so. Clara will be bull riding and Blaze will be at Footy so, I think I'm free," whereas Athena answered,

"Yeah, sorry, I'm unavailable." I shot her a questioning look. "Tennis." She said. Of course she had Tennis. She was always at a game or training. But, I've gotta say, she's pretty good at it. Well, I'm guessing so anyway. I threw Darcy my plain crackers, and as payment, she chucked me her mini wafers. Every day we make 'the trade', and every day I am amazed by how much she loves plain, salty crackers more than mini wafers. I mean, what the heck? Who does that?

The thing that surprised me most was the fact that someone came and sat down next to Athena. She smiled at him and said,

"Hey," he didn't even smile back, Athena just turned back towards me and kept talking about how she wasn't free on Friday and how hard her life was when all I was thinking was, why did a guy just randomly come over and sit next to my friend? I know she's social, but not THIS social. He just sat there, slowly unwrapping a sandwich when someone called out,

"Oi Jayde, come on!" Lucas Silverman. Of course. "Dude, come on! We're going to the tuck shop." Lucas started to turn away, when Athena faced the boy supposedly called Jayde, and said,

"See ya bestie," and with a final fist-pump, and a surprising smile and "bye," from the boy, he left. I turned towards Rose and Darcy to see what the thought of the situation, but they were happily chatting away as if this was normal. As if nothing had happened. I looked at Athena and stared at her in shock, but decided wisely not to say anything. Which obviously was a good decision as the bell rang right after.

As Athena started to get up, I caught her arm, forgetting about the whole 'wisely not saying anything', and said,

"Excuse me, but what was that?" She looked shocked by my question, but I continued nevertheless. "Since when did you hang out with guys? Wait, how are you even friends WITH a guy?" She started laughing as if it wasn't just my words but my expression that amused her.

"Wow Harper, you really don't get out much, do you?" She asked.

"Well, no," I replied, "but then again, I'm still at that stage of, 'oh no, boys have cooties,'" at this point, she was laughing so hard that a tear nearly escaped her grey-blue eyes.

"Just so you know, I'm not friends with all guys,"

"Obviously," I muttered under my breath, smiling.

"Only some guys." We started to walk up the stairs to our lockers when she said, "You know, you really don't get out much," she smiled and turned left at the top of the stairs, whereas I just stood there, confused and slightly offended by her words. "Love ya!" She cried out as I started to walk away. I smiled,

"There we go," I said quietly under my breath. I mean, I knew the reassuring comment would always come, but for some reason, today I wasn't expecting it. I let the thought pass, deciding to get back to it. The bell rang for the next period to begin, and after a boring last hour of school, it was time to pick up Leila and go home.
