"Bring the freaks out to the floor,"
- Timmy Trumpet (Freaks)----------
It was lunchtime of the next day, Thursday, when the unimaginable started. I was sitting with Darcy in a corner in the library when Jonah walked in. Not clinging to George for a change, I thought, surprised that they weren't near each other. He walked into one of the spare classrooms that wasn't being used. I looked over to Darcy to see if she noticed, but she seemed heavily involved with her iPad. I turned back to my book and quickly checked the time. 1:30pm. Five minutes till break ends. I packed up my gear and nudged Darcy. She took out her earphones and looked at me.
"Five minutes. Wanna go now?" She looked back at her iPad, and nodded. We started to walk out when the bell rang. Darcy and I had just exited the library when I saw Athena walking up to the office. She asked,
"Where's your hat?" Her questioning expression had me immediately reaching for my head. I sighed,
"Damn, I left it in the library." I turned around and at a fast pace started walking, but slammed right into a pole. "Shivers!" I held my forehand and pressed tightly to hopefully minimise the pain. I dropped all of my books and fell onto the ground. I felt people all around me, Athena holding my back and the click of a camera. Someone must be taking a picture. I took my hand off for a second to see Darcy standing in front of me taking pictures of the accident on her iPad. She started to laugh and I placed my hand back on my head. Just shake it off. Shake it off. The pain isn't real... I repeated my usual words of denial towards pain and started to get up.
"Are you sure you're okay? I looked up and saw Tulip McKey crouched down in front of me. She held her hand out, waiting for me to take it. In the split second where she was touching me, instant relief seared though me. It felt like a burning, a healing burning. I looked up at her as she pulled me up.
"Th-thanks," she smiled and said,
"No problem." And she walked towards her next class, which I presumed was science as the labs is where she was headed. I stood there still shocked by what had just happened, but quickly dismissed the thought and turned to Darcy and Athena.
"Are you okay?! Okay my gosh!" Athena was already asking a billion questions and I had just stood up.
"Haha I have the funniest picture of you," Darcy exclaimed excitedly. She showed me her iPad and I stared, feeling faint at what I saw. There was a certain buzz about the image. It had me sprawled on the ground in an awkward position and people all around me. In the corner of the picture, it showed Tulip walking towards me, one hand outstretched. But that one outstretched hand was glowing. Flipping glowing! On pure instinct, I reached up and gently touched the place where Tulip's hand had been. I snapped out of my haze and asked,
"Can you send that to me?" I hadn't taken my eyes of the image, but I knew Darcy and Athena were both looking at me weirdly. "Can you see that?" I pointed it out to Darcy but she shook her head.
"What are we supposed to be looking at here?" She asked, completely oblivious to the glowing arm. This time it was my turn to shake my head.
"Never mind," I stood there silently as I watched Darcy send the picture to me. Once the job was done, I headed off again towards the library for my hat. I walked up the stairs to the second story where Darcy and I were previously seated, and resumed the search for my hat. I lifted up cushions, checked in the book shelves and thought of all the possible options as to where my hat could be. I walked into the first of the three exam rooms in the library looking for my hat, but there was nothing except empty desks and seats. The second room was pretty much the same, however a slightly different arrangement of tables and chairs took place.
The third classroom seemed pretty much normal. Once again, the layout of the furniture was different to the previous rooms. I walked towards the whiteboard nailed into one wall and saw some faint words still on the board presumably from the class that had been in there last. There was a green pen, a black pen and a blue pen. In one corner of the whiteboard was a small number written in red.
It was glowing. It said: he is the first, let the outbreak begin. I turned around and saw a body. A dead body. It was Jonah. He opened his eyes, I screamed. Not because he woke up,
But because he had fangs...
I turned and ran towards the door, but he was too fast. He got there first and slammed it shut with a hungry look in his glowing red eyes. I noticed his neck had two small holes with a small trickle of blood flowing like two thin veins. I gasped in surprise. I'd read all the vampire books, seen all the movies. I know that the one thing you don't do to a vamp is run away or make them angrier. So I slowly stepped back; however, to my disappointment, my back touched the wall and my hand rested against a table. He had me pinned in a corner. He took a closer step and I knew that this would be the end unless a miracle occured. Of course, one did.
I heard the door swing open and slam shut. In the split-second that Jonah turned around, I slipped out of his grasp ran for the desks. I felt a cold thin hand in my ankle as I dived under the table. I yelled as the figure that had entered the room came closer. I tried to sneak a glance at the stranger. I shut my eyes and thought, he won't hurt me, he won't hurt me... But I wasn't so sure anymore. The grasp on my ankle became tighter and the supposed vampire pulled me out from the table. He pulled me up on my feet and had me in a headlock. I tried to kick my feet up, cause that's what your supposed to do right? Aim for the sensitive part. But he didn't move. Not even a flinch. I shut my eyes, not wanting to see what happened next. But one whip of something sharp through the air and I was pushed to the ground, Jonah, the cold-blooded creature, landed on top of me. I shoved him off and escaped to the safety to the corner of the room. What I saw surprisingly didn't scare me.
It terrified me.
Jonah was laying still on the ground with red-black blood trickling from a large gash and a piece of wood, what I assumed must be a stake, in his neck. I turned towards the door but all I see was what looked like a glowing person leave the room. This thing saved me. I felt my hand to my neck to check for anything...unusual.
My head started to pound steadily to the beat of my heart. I stumbled over to a chair, but didn't quite make it and resulted in collapse on the floor in an awkward heap. My vision became that of light and shadows passing through your eyes as you close them. I tried to breathe deeply and wish away the headache.
But for the first time ever, I fainted.
And the last thing I remembered was one glowing person, that held the face of an angel...literally. What looked like mighty wings of feathers and fur were held up behind the person. My last awakening breath held me to believe the person that found me was no stranger.
Was this angel that saved me Jayde? It can't be...
