Finally Forgotten

"We were victims of the night,
The chemical, physical, kryptonite
Helpless to the bass and the fading light
Oh, we were bound to get together.

She took my arm,
I don't know how it happened,
we took the floor and she said!

Oh don't you dare look back,
just keep your eyes on me.
I said 'you're holding back',
she said 'Shut up and dance with me!'

This woman is my destiny,
she said 'Shut up and dance with me!'"

- WALK THE MOON (Shut Up and Dance)
----------

It was Thursday the day after I had brought Elise back to life. Yeah she was officially a vampire, but she didn't seem to mind the sudden change in diet. I woke up that morning still in my small room in Hotel Tenebris. I was turned on my side facing my lamp and a small vase with water and a delicate flower. I rolled back the sheets and saw a tiny folded piece of paper in front of the vase. As I looked closer towards the flower and note, I realised the flower was a miniature rose. A pink and delicate thing, I wouldn't be surprised if it was made of paper. I touched the petal and felt the softness through its veins. It was soft as snow. I opened the letter and read.

Harper,

I was running through the forest and I saw a patch of sunlight. In the middle was a miniature rose bush that had only just grown. Out of all the roses there, one pink rose stood out on top. This rose reminded me of you; beautiful and delicate, but the thorns pack a punch...

Meet me roof for brekkie.

- James

I smiled, no one had ever done that for me. Ever. I looked back at his curvy handwriting and admired his neatness. Yes, admiring a boy's handwriting over the message may seem weird, but I guess that's one of my quirks. I read through the letter two or three times before deciding to finally get dressed out of my pyjamas and into some suitable clothes for breakfast.

I approached the staircase and ran two storeys up and through the ladder up to the roof. I climbed through the hatch and stood up to admire the forest view. I heard a voice and turned around. James. He had a blue hoody on to match his sparkling crystal eyes. His lips were flushed with colour and smiling bright as ever. I couldn't help but grin, to see someone so happy to see me made my day. I slowly walked towards him, and realised that we had matching converse shoes.

"Nice shoes," he commented, obviously realising as well. I laughed, and craned my neck to the sky, not knowing where to look without being awkward.

"Yeah," I mumbled. I turned towards him. The moment just seemed perfect: the sky was in the middle of a sunrise, so the pink and orange clouds cast a peachy glow on the concrete roof. He patted down next to him as if saying, 'come sit'. I couldn't help but smile. I sat down, and our feet rested against eachother, our matching shoes slightly different tinges of brown from different circumstances.

Out of the silence, we heard a loud grumbling. I placed my hands on my stomach, and muttered,

"Sorry, that was my stomach," completely embarrassed. He laughed and pulled a backpack out from beside him, which I mustn't have seen. He opened it up and pulled more food then I had seen in my whole stay at Hotel Tenebris. Packets of fresh strawberries, a loaf of cut bread, butter and honey, Tim Tams (which I fell in love with immediately), and some cans of Sprite. "Well, you're well prepared," I said to him, still smiling at how thoughtful he was. He opened the packet of Tim Tams with a hungry look in his eyes, and went straight on in. I watched him smother his face with chocolate, and soon enough, we were both full to the maximum and empty packets and cans surrounded us. Apparently neither of us had eaten good food like that since, well, I don't know. Then, James did something I never expected. He reached his arms up as if yawning and stretching, and placed them around my shoulders. I felt him tug at my long fiery hair, but didn't do anything about it. What should I do?! My head was screaming at me from all directions. Do I lean my head on him? Get my hair out from under him? Just stay completely still? Run away? Nah, I don't like that alternative. Eventually, my thoughts stopped and we sat there in peace, not talking, only breathing in time and me snuggled up under his arm.
