In-Laws

By the time Zarc got home later that evening, Kairi appeared to have given up and left. Zarc entered his house and sat on the living room sofa. Ugh, looking around he knew he'd need to eventually let Kairi in to pick up her belongings. There was her makeup on the coffee table, her favorite coffee cup on the end table, and some other things that Kairi had brought into the marriage.

Of course, he wasn't going to let Kairi into his house unsupervised, or be alone with him. That was a recipe for disaster at this point. He really wouldn't put it past his soon-to-be-ex-wife to make up some false accusations against him. So he pulled out his phone and called his in-laws.

His mother-in-law answered the call immediately. "Hello, Zarc, dear," she said. "I'm so terribly sorry about my daughter. Is there no chance of reconciliation?"

"I'm afraid not," Zarc replied. "Since we confronted her, she has not once made any attempt to make amends. She's instead done nothing but make demands and attempt to bully the other men she was seeing into helping her make me do as she wants. She's shown absolutely no remorse for her actions. And at this point, it's just too late for her to apologize even if she did so of her own free will."

"I understand," his mother-in-law said. Zarc continued, "I actually called to ask if you would be willing to stop by my place to help Kairi pick up her belongings. I don't want her in my house alone, and I don't want her around me without witnesses. After everything she's done in the last twenty-four hours, I wouldn't be surprised if she tries something."

"Satoya and I could stop by tomorrow, since it's Saturday," his mother-in-law said after a moment of consulting her husband. "Would you be available at around 1:30 in the afternoon?"

"1:30 tomorrow will be fine," Zarc replied. "I'll see you then!"
