Surprise Surprise

I wanted to follow. I wanted to stop him. I wanted to take back my words that had enlightened him. The only thing was...

I knew I couldn't.

Once they had left my mouth they couldn't return like they'd never been said, and those five words were about to ruin Garrett's life.

I stood there, not able to move, even after Mason had fully left the room and had had time to get to a phone.

My stupidity gnawed at me. Why didn't I go after him? Why did I even tell him? What was wrong with me?

I let out an aggravated sigh that came across more like a groan. My hand came up and lightly hit my face, sliding down until it fell by my side.

Unconsciously, my feet started moving and I found myself standing in the bathroom with the water in the tub running and myself already stripped and stepping in.

The water was boiling hot but I didn't mind the warmth. It was kind of like I was being punished for giving Mason Garrett's full name to give to the police. I mean, how stupid was I? There had to have been a way to get Garrett out of trouble. I'm sure that turning him into the police wasn't the correct way to go... but what could I do now?

I sighed in frustration and slid deeper into the water, goosebumps covering my entire body as the heat stung my cool skin. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, letting my body relax.

"What are you doing!" He yelled at me.

"Trying to save him."

Mason sneered at me, the gun he was holding in front of him was pointed at my chest, no sign of backing down on his part was showing.

I stood in front of Garrett, who lay on the ground with a bullet wound already in his shoulder. It would have pierced his heart if I hadn't pushed him. But now I was determined to protect him in whatever way I had to.

"Move," Mason instructed.

"No. I'm not going to let you kill him."

"Move or I'll shoot you too."

Shock rippled throughout my body. Would he really shoot me? Just to get to Garrett? I highly doubted it. I tensed up and held my ground.

Suddenly the sound of a gun shot rippled through the air and then pain exploded in my chest. I immediately felt the blood pooling up from the fatal wound but I couldn't do anything.

I lay there, unable to move from shock and the unbearable pain that soon slammed into my body.

Footsteps sounded, getting closer and closer until they were right by me. I force myself to turn my head and look at him. He stared down at me and raised his gun one more time, but this time the bullet didn't hit me. I knew what it did hit though. I cringed and closed my eyes.

This was it. He was going to kill me next. I was going to die at the hands of Mason.

I drew one last breath before the bullet entered my forehead, sending me into an eternity of pain and darkness.

A scream erupted from my throat, before I slipped under and water filled my mouth when I tried to take in air. My eyes snapped open and saw crystal clear water around me. The water was ice cold, compared to the warmth from before.

A muffled banging came from the other side of the bathroom door, and then it stopped.

My panicked state was stopping me from gaining control of myself and calming down so I could come up for air, resulting in my vision darkening because of lack of oxygen.

Suddenly the door exploded and someone walked in. The persons arms were submerged  into the water and wrapped themselves around me. I couldn't make anything out but I only assumed it was Mason.

As soon as I broke the surface, I gasped for air. After a minute or two, my vision  started returning to normal. But when my eyes landed on the person who had saved me, it wasn't Mason.

"Garrett? What are you doing here?"
