"Garrett, slow down." I said while laughing.
Garrett and I were coasting backroads with the windows down and music up.
"Nah, we're fine." He assured me.
I looked at the speedometer and saw that he was going twenty over. I rolled my eyes but a smile broke out on my face.
"Garrett!" I screamed.
Suddenly the tires lost traction and we spun off of the road and into the river we were driving over.
Water immediately started flowing into the car through the open windows.
Panic pierced me, and I fought to catch one last breath before the whole car was engulfed in water.
I frantically looked over at Garrett to find him pulling his seatbelt off of him. As soon as he was free, he moved to mine; except mine wouldn't budge.
He reached for the glove department and opened it. Papers floated out and other things. He rummaged around in it until he pulled his hand out. In his hand was a knife.
He cut through my seatbelt and pulled me to him. His arms wrapped around me and I felt him kick his legs in the water, and then we started moving out of the car and towards the surface.
We broke the surface and i tried to breathe in but I couldn't move. I could hear Garrett's voice but I couldn't respond. I felt myself being set down on something hard, and assumed it was the ground.
Hands were placed on my chest, right over my sternum, and then there was pressure. I felt one of my ribs crack, and fiery pain consumed my body.
~~~
Suddenly, my eyes flew open, and I coughed. Nothing came up. There wasn't water in my lungs, and I could breathe just fine.
It was just a dream. A flashback. It wasn't happening.
"Reagan?" I herad a male voice, the same amount of desperation in it as there was in Garrett's.
I sat up and leaned forward, putting my head between my knees and wrapping my arms around my legs.
"Reagan?" The voice came again.
I looked up expecting to see Mason, but was astonished when I saw my father, kneeling in front of me.
"Daddy?" I whispered.
A crooked smile appeared on his face and sadness filled his eyes.
I jumped forward, landing on my knees, and wrapped my arms around him. He did the same.
I felt tears pricking the edges of my eyes, and I sniffled.
He pulled me back, a hand on each shoulder, and looked at me.
"Why are you crying?" He asked.
"I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too. But now we can be together forever."
"What do you mean?" I asked, scooting away from him.
"Oh Reagan..."
I looked down at my hands to find them dissolving away into wispy white flecks.
"What's happening?" I asked frantically.
"You're coming to be with your mother and I." he told me.
He started walking towards me, and I backed away.
"Stay away from me."
"Don't you want to be with your parents?"
"Not this way. I want to be with you when it's time."
"It is time." He said, his voice low and menacing.
He snatched out at me and his arm found my upper arm. His hand latched around me and jerked me towards him.
"No!" I screamed and pulled away.
I turned my back towards him and my feet started forward at a fast pace.
"Come back here now!" He yelled with a commanding voice.
I didn't respond but kept running.
Suddenly there was a bright flash and then pitch black. Everything turned from yelling and the echo of shoes against tile to absolute quiet.
What was happening?
Am I dead?
