The floor boards to the living room creaked eerily, forcing Finney to open his droopy eyes and slowly sit up from his awkward sleeping position on the sofa. His eyes begin to sting at the sudden light in the room, but he quickly adjusts to it.
"Oh." Robin's uncle looks to Finney in slight surprise, but he soon smiles. "A little trouble in paradise? Huh?" He questions, and it takes Finn a few moments to realise what he's talking about.
His face flushes a red as he nods slightly. "Uh yeah."
"Trust me, kid. I've been there." He chuckles, smiling sympatheticly at the boy. "Did you sleep, alright?"
"Yeah." He lies. The truth was that was the worst sleep he's ever had. The sofa was way too small for his body, meaning he had to be extra careful when tossing and turning in his sleep, so he didn't find himself on the rug on the floor. He kept waking up every so often and found it hard to go back to sleep due to the springs being uncomfortable on his back. But he doesn't mention it. "Did Anna go home yesterday?" Finn asks curiously. Robins uncle nods his head in reply.
"I'm guessing you heard most of the argument?" He forces out a pitiful laugh. "Is-uh. Is Robin okay? I wanted to check up on him, but i thought maybe he just wanted you to comfort him."
"A little upset." Finn shrugged as he remembered Robin sobbing last night in his room talking about how much he hates this place.
His uncle hums, then taps his jeans with his legs. "Well, uh. You better get yourself up and ready for school. Wouldn't want you to be late." He advises, changing the subject away from Robin.
Finney nodds, getting himself up and walking to the bathroom, leaving the door open. He would just skip breakfast today.
He looks in the mirror, noticing how messy his hair is, so he reaches for his hair brush that was laid neatly out on one of the counter. He brings it up to his head and brushes his curls out. He liked his hair brushed as it looked neat and wasn't such a hassle, but he remembers Robin telling him one night that he prefers his natural curls.
Robin walks into the bathroom, still in his pyjamas, looking like a tired wreck. He stops by the place next to Finney in front of the mirror. "Morning." He greets, but Finney ignores him, brushing a little more harshly. "Wow. Not even gunna say it back?" Finn huffs, turning his head over to glare at Robin. Robin cocks his head to the side and sends a look to Finn that practically says 'really?'. "You're seriously not still mad at me?" Finney remains silent. 'Jeez, he really can be stubborn' Robin thinks to himself. "Fine," He shrugs. "Be that way."
He grabs himself his toothbrush from the pot, running it under and squeezing whatever was left out of the tube of mint toothpaste before popping it into his mouth. The two stand in uncomfortable silence, Finney ignoring Robin and Robin pretending like it doesn't bother him when it really does.
Once he's done brushing his teeth, he spits the excess paste into the sink and runs the tap before wandering out to get changed in his room, leaving Finn to himself.
After thirty minutes and both of them are ready, Vance pulls up outside to drive them to school.
Vance instantly picks up on the mood as he watches them both hop into the car as quiet as ever, the same angry frown on their faces. "Jesus fuck. What's up your asses?" He huffs out a laugh.
"Nothing. We're fine." Robin mumbles from the passenger seat, shrugging his shoulders. Finney doesn't say anything back. He just stares out of the window, shutting himself off.
The ride was overwhelmingly silent. Even whilst walking in the school corridors, the most words anyone speaks is Robin excusing himself. That's when Vance stops in the hallway and turns to Finney. "Alright, what the fuck is going on with you two? It's Monday morning. Seriously, what can make you guys so pissy?"
