N A K S H A T R A
Two weeks had passed since that intense incident, and things between Adhwit and I had grown even closer. The tension, the doubts—everything that had been clouding my mind seemed to have faded, replaced with a calmness I hadn't felt before. We were finally in a place where we understood each other better, and I could tell that the warmth between us was stronger than ever.
The day at the hospital had been long, filled with back-to-back appointments. I had been working as a psychiatrist, which was rewarding, but sometimes, certain patients could be... a little too much. And today, one of those patients had been particularly persistent.
As soon as I walked into my office for my next session, I noticed him—a young man, mid-twenties, with a grin that was way too confident for my liking. His gaze followed me as I entered, and I could already tell he was about to make things... complicated.
"Dr. Nakshatra," he said, his voice smooth and casual, with an undercurrent of something else. "I must say, you have the most captivating eyes. I think I’d love to get lost in them, if you don’t mind."
I forced a smile, sitting down across from him. "Let's focus on why you're here," I said, trying to steer the conversation back to professional grounds.
But he wasn’t letting up. "Oh, but the real question is... how do you stay so calm and composed? You must know you're too beautiful to be a psychiatrist. Shouldn't you be doing something more... glamorous?"
I raised an eyebrow, trying to keep my tone neutral. "I'm here to help you, not to indulge in flattery. So, what brings you to therapy today?"
He leaned forward, eyes lingering on me a little too long. "You know, I think I could really benefit from spending more time with you, outside of these sessions. How about dinner? I promise it’ll be worth your while."
My patience was running thin. I’d dealt with flirtatious patients before, but this one was pushing all the wrong buttons. I crossed my arms, keeping my calm. "We’re not here for dinner. We’re here for your well-being. If you’re serious about improving, we need to focus on that."
Before he could respond, Paridhi, knocked and entered the room. "Nakshatra! Ready to grab a quick bite after work?" she asked, her energy always lifting my spirits.
I shot her a grateful look, and she quickly picked up on the tension in the room. She gave the patient a pointed look before turning back to me. "Everything alright?"
I nodded, grateful for the distraction. "Just peachy. Thanks, Paridhi."
The patient, though, wasn’t backing down easily. "I’ll let you off the hook today, Dr. Nakshatra. But don’t think I’ll stop asking you out," he said with a wink, clearly not getting the hint.
I didn’t acknowledge him further, letting Paridhi and me finish the session. As soon as the door closed behind him, I let out a sigh of relief.
Paridhi grinned. "He wasn’t your type, was he?"
I laughed, rolling my eyes. "Definitely not."
After my duty ended, I was relieved to finally leave the hospital. As I walked into the house, I saw Adhwit waiting for me. His warm smile made the weight of the day feel lighter. He handed me a cup of hot chocolate, something he knew always made me feel better after a long day.
I set the mug aside and moved to sit on his lap, making myself comfortable as I wrapped my arms around him. It felt so good to be close to him after the day I’d had.
"So, how was your day?" he asked, his voice soft and warm, brushing his lips against my forehead.
I smiled, relaxing into him. "Busy... but much better now," I said, leaning up to kiss him softly.
His hands slid around my waist, pulling me closer. "Glad to hear it," he murmured, his voice dropping lower as he kissed me again, more deeply this time.
The room seemed to melt away as we fell into each other, the only thing that mattered was the way his touch made me feel. The weight of the day, the patient who wouldn’t stop flirting, it all faded in that moment, replaced by the warmth of Adhwit’s embrace and the love we shared.
As I settled on Adhwit's lap, his warmth instantly surrounded me, and I relaxed against him. His hands gently rested on my waist, pulling me closer, while his breath brushed my neck as he placed a soft kiss there.
"You look tired," he murmured, his voice low, teasing.
I smiled, leaning into him. "Yeah, it's been a long day. Some patients can be a handful," I replied with a light laugh.
Adhwit’s playful smirk never left his face as his fingers traced gentle circles on my waist. "Was one of them giving you a hard time?"
I nodded, feeling a slight chuckle escape me. "Yeah. One patient wouldn’t stop flirting."
His lips curled into a mischievous smile. "Sounds like someone who needs to be taught a lesson," he teased, his hands sliding lower on my waist, sending a little shiver through me. "I could show you how to handle someone like that."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his playful challenge. "Oh really? And how would you do that?"
His hands tightened on my waist, pulling me even closer. "I know how to take control when it’s needed," he whispered. "And I think I could make you forget all about those patients... starting with you."
I laughed softly, feeling a rush of warmth at his words. "Is that so?" I teased.
His lips brushed against mine, the kiss deepening as his hands guided me even closer. "I’ll prove it to you," he murmured, his voice filled with confidence.
The tension between us shifted, and in that moment, all I could focus on was the closeness we shared and how easily he made me feel cherished.
