The auction was back in full swing, and the chaos in the room was reaching new heights. Cushions were being thrown, drinks were being stolen, and Shreesh was dramatically fanning himself like a spoiled princess whenever someone outbid him.
"Alright, next person up for auction!" Isha declared, standing on the couch like a pirate captain. "And this time, let's pick someone who deserves to suffer."
"Adhwit," I blurted out before thinking.
A slow, dangerous smirk stretched across his lips as he turned to look at me. "Oh? Mi pequeña traviesa, do you really think you can afford me?"
Isha gasped. "Ooooh, the tension! The audacity! The challenge!"
Shreesh, being the drama king he was, faked a faint. "Bhabhi Maa, you must win him! This is a Bollywood movie moment waiting to happen."
I rolled my eyes. "Shut up and start bidding."
And just like that, the game resumed.
Isha: 5 million
Dhruv, who was clearly just bidding to be annoying: 8 million
Shreesh, flipping his imaginary hair: 10 million
Me: 12 million.
Aishwarya: 20 million.
My head snapped toward her so fast I nearly got whiplash. "Excuse me?!"
Aishwarya shrugged innocently. "What? I want to know his secrets."
Adhwit leaned back in his seat, watching with mild amusement as the numbers climbed.
Dhruv, sipping his drink like the chaotic menace he was, grinned. "Damn, I'm having fun."
"25 million," I said without hesitation.
Aishwarya narrowed her eyes. "30 million."
My jaw clenched.
"45," I bit out.
Shreesh's jaw dropped. "Bhabhi Maa is not playing."
Aishwarya gave me a long, considering look before sighing. "Fine. He's yours."
Isha grinned like she had just set the world on fire. "And sold to Nakshatra Adhwit Oberoi for 45 million fake-ass bucks! What a power move!"
Adhwit tilted his head at me, his smirk deepening. "Now, what exactly do you want to ask me, mi amor?"
I suddenly realized-I hadn't thought this far ahead.
Crap.
My brain scrambled for something-anything-that wouldn't make me seem too interested in him.
And then, it hit me.
I straightened, my expression turning smug. "If you could switch lives with anyone in this room for one whole week, who would it be and why?"
The room erupted into chaos.
"Oh, that's evil," Dhruv cackled.
Shreesh gasped dramatically. "He's going to pick me, obviously."
Isha was bouncing on the couch. "Oh, this is good."
Adhwit didn't answer immediately. He just... studied me. His gaze was slow, deliberate, as if he was assessing the trap I had set.
Then, with a lazy smirk, he exhaled.
"I'd switch lives with you."
Silence.
