"Ok, so I figure we should find our guide, convert our money, then find our apartment, and just chill out for the rest of the day," Mackenzie suggests.
"Sounds like a plan," I said as I yawn, exhausted. I never really liked flying that much.
"Hey, should we tweet that we are safe and now in London, so no one thinks we are dead or anything crazy like that?"
"Yeah, that's probably a good idea, but," I attempt to say, only to be interrupted by my own yawn. " Can you do it? I'm so tired, my vision is already blurry, and looking at my screen will just make it worst."
Mackenzie grabs her phone out of her pocket and unlocks it. "It's 6:26. We should find our guide, then grab something to eat. I'm starving!"
"Same. What are you in the mood for?"
Mackenzie doesn't hesitate when she says,"Honestly, anything other than peanuts or pretzels."
Hearing her refer to the airplane food makes me chuckle sleepily. "Sounds good."
We walk around the airport for a few minutes before we finally stumble across a tall man who seems to be in his early 20's and a tan complexion. He had a blue ball cap with a white trim, blue t-shirt and beige jacket, blue jeans, and white converse. Mackenzie and me recognized him right away. We had talked to him back in America, at Vidcon last summer. We bumped into him and noticed he had a British accent, and started a conversation with him by asking him if he lived in England.
Flashback 1 year ago: Vidcon
"As a matter of fact, yes I am! I come from the London area. My name is Gavin."
"I'm Mackenzie, and this," she says as she gestures towards me, "is Taylor."
"Hello," I say, so awkward, I mentally cringe at myself. God, why was I so awkward?
"So, have you guys ever been to the UK before?" Gavin ask, questionably.
"Actually, no, but we were thinking about going there next summer," Mackenzie replied, realizing I was not able of making human interactions at the moment, and saving me from making a complete idiot out of myself.
"Really? That's awesome! You totally should. England is amazing. Here, take my card." He reaches into his pocket and takes out his wallet. He hands both of us a small business card. I look at it and it says 'Golden Tours London by Gavin Simms: Employee' "I work as a guide for tourists. If you guys are ever in the London are, just call my personal cell number on the back, and we can set up something."
"Awesome, thanks!" Mackenzie and I said in unison. I swear we are mentally connected.
"Yeah, no problem. It would be awesome to meet up with you girls again one day," he said, flashing a nice, bright smile.
End of Flashback
"Hey girls! It's so great to see you again," Gavin shrieked, as he took Mackenzie and I in his arms in a strong embrace.
"Hey Gavin! How are you?" I ask, more comfortable and confident since I now know him.
"Oh, I've been great! I actually met someone."
Mackenzie's face lightened up as she knew what he meant. "Aww, that's great! What's her name?"
I saw Gavin's face go a shade of red as he realized what Mackenzie had just asked.
"Um, his name is Vincent."
I saw the immediate shock of regret on Mackenzie's face as we realized for the first time that Gavin, our London tour guide, is gay.
"Oh my God, Gavin. I am so sorry, I had no idea. I never meant to-" Mackenzie was cut off by Gavin's even more apologetic tone.
"Oh no, it's fine, I swear. Don't worry. There is no way you could have known. It's not like it ever came up in conversation," he says, with a reassuring smile that seemed a bit forced.
"Gavin, whether you are gay, straight, or fuckin' asexual means nothing to us. You are still the same Gavin that we know and love," I say, trying to salvage this and make him feel better and comfortable again.
"Really?" he says, tears welling up in his light green eyes.
"Of course, I swear, if I would have even thought about it, I would never have said that. I am so sorry," Mackenzie replies, putting a hand on top of Gavin's in an attempt to comfort him.
"So, what is Vincent like?"
Time skip to Apartment
"Well, here it is!" Gavin says as we reach the apartment complex. It is a big, brick building and there is Starbucks just down the street. Doesn't get any better than that.
"And now ends an awful, jetlag-filled day. Yay!!!" I say sleepily.
"Yeah, guys. I am so tired, I think I am just going to pass out on the floor," Mackenzie jokes.
"Oh god, I forgot. Did you-" "Already taken care of," Gavin said. "The furniture you sent here has already been sent up there and taken care of personally by me."
"Gavin, you are literally the best." Mackenzie says sincerely.
"No problem. Anything for my girls. So breakfast at my apartment?" Gavin asks a few minutes later to confirm our plans for tomorrow morning.
"Definitely," we say in unison for the second time today.
We said our goodbyes and after our long day, we went up the 8 flights of stairs in which we were in no mental or physical condition to go up, and finally made it to apartment 8A. We opened the door to the apartment that now belonged to us. We each grabbed a slice of pizza that Gavin conveniently left for us in the fridge in our kitchen, and went to the living room, only to pass out as soon as each of us finished our pizza.
And thus began our summer in London, England.
