I looked at Jeff, and he looked at me. He finally looked exhausted, all throughout the fight with Toby he didn't look tired, not one bit. He sat down on my bed and sighed, relaxing. I sat down next to him, resting my head on his shoulder.

"Thank you..." I whispered quietly, closing my eyes.

"Of course, I'm glad you called. If you didn't..." He said, his tone expressing his disgust at Ticci Toby.

"Don't worry about 'what if's', your going to make yourself go crazy!" I said, taking my head off his shoulder and looking him into his deep, blue eyes. He looked back into my hazel eyes, and I almost melted under his beautiful gaze.

"You're right, I do worry too much, especially when it comes to protecting you." He said quietly. He was obviously thinking hard about something, but it didn't look like he would tell me. Maybe I could pry it out of him? I'm really curious.

"There's been something on your mind recently... What's going on?" I ask sincerely.

"Nothing really!" The tone in his voice lightened a bit, but it was faked.

"Please don't lie to me..." I looked down at the floor. There is definitely something wrong, but why won't he tell me?

"I don't see it as lying, I see it as protecting you."

"Protecting me from what? I can't always rely on your protection... How am I supposed to protect myself, if I don't know what's wrong?"

He looked down thinking. "Honestly - it's so stupid, and selfish - but I don't want you to be able to protect yourself..."

I looked at him, shocked. "What?!"

"If you can protect yourself, why would you need me?" He looked down ashamed. It's so cute when he's shy.

"Oh... Even if I learn to protect myself, I would still want you. I need you in my life, you know that." I said, hugging him tightly.

He wrapped my arms around me, lifting me up onto his lap. He still didn't tell me what was wrong, but I didn't really care at this point. I wrapped my arms up around the back of his neck, and his arms snaked their way around my waist. he held me tight for what seemed like forever, and I still didn't feel like it was long enough.

I lifted my head, and looked up at him, he smiled sweetly under his cut-smile, and even that looked sweet. I leaned up and kissed him on his mouth, and he kissed me back, it was deep and lovingly.

There was a loud thud from outside the door - more like something ran into the door and it caused the thud. Jeff and I both looked towards the door. I got off of his lap, and we both cautiously stepped towards the door.

Their was a growling noise, and Jeff showed relief. "It's just Smile Dog!" He said, opening the door. A large, black and red dog with a human like smile sitting in front of my bedroom door.

"Why is he at my door?" I asked, tilting my head to the left a tad bit.

"He knew I was in here..." He said, giving a small laugh. He reached his hand down and pet Smile Dog. Jeff looked up at me. "Here." He said, taking my wrist, he brought my hand to the top of the large dog's head and set it down right between his ears. I pet Smile Dog, and surprisingly, his fur was soft.

I picked my hand off of the dog and turned to Jeff again. "Do you have a hairbrush I can use?"

"Hairbrush? Yeah, I've got one. Gimme a sec." He ran into his room, and when he came out he handed me a hairbrush.

I brushed my hair, it was hard because my hair was messy from everything I've done recently.

I handed him the hairbrush and he put it away. I pet Smile Dog once more and walked down the hall.
