It was after school, and I had gone home in preparation for hanging out with... friends? First time in a long time, honestly.
I told my Mum about it, and she was thrilled. I haven't really hung out with anyone for a while and she was beginning to worry for my social life. But I think it is okay now.
I go into my room and decide to throw on a Black Veil Brides shirt, with some black skinny jeans. I don't normally wear my band shirts to school because people would call me "emo" and such for liking the bands I had on the shirt, so I never wore them. Only on the weekends mainly when nobody was around to necessarily judge. I then threw on a dark grey beanie and made sure my part was okay, and looked in the mirror.
Michael was supposed to be picking me up at 4:00, and it was 3:30 now. I decide to brush my teeth, just as some kind of precaution. I reapplied deodorant and sprayed on cologne briefly. I was nervous to be hanging out with them, because they had bullied me for so long. But because Michael and I were... dating in a sense, they were willing to kind of accept me. Which felt good.
I also felt like the bullying was going to end, that I was going to be happy. I also put on a couple of rubber bracelets, and I felt ready to go. I felt comfortable.
I sat down on my bed and glanced at the time again. 20 minutes left. Time was going by slowly. You know when you're especially excited for something to happen, and time goes by so tediously? That is how I feel now. Ashton and Calum seemed cool to be around, when they did not hate you that is. They seemed to be nice to Michael and such.
I hear a knock on the door early and I rush to go and get it. I open it before my Mum even has time to get up from the couch. Completely expecting for something bad to happen, I brace myself. But I just see Michael, in the same clothes as earlier, standing happily at the door.
"Luke." He says.
"Michael." I say as well, gesturing for him to come in.
"So I hear your name is Michael." My Mum says, getting up and walking over to him. "Name's Liz, pleasure to meet you." She smiles warmly.
"You too." He says, holding out a hand. She shakes it lightly and their hands drop after a couple seconds.
"Have him home by ten. I get worried if he's out too late." My Mum says to him.
"Will do, Liz. We are going bowling at the nearby alley, and then to our friend Ashton's house. He lives not too far from here, so I assure you your son will be home safe." Michael explains.
We leave without another word. We step into the empty elevator. "You look good in that outfit." Michael tells me, gently pushing me up against the back wall. I don't know what to say so I look to the ground; feeling my cheeks warm and tingle a bit. "You should dress like that more often, looks hot." He whispers, kissing my cheek and down my neck. He pulls away when the elevator dings and the doors open at the bottom floor. We both step out into the lobby area. It was small and falling apart, but it wasn't going to be fancy.
We leave and we get into a dark blue car. I wasn't too good with car brands. "It's new, by the way. Got it last week." He smiles, examining the car. I walk around to the other side of the car and get in the passenger seat.
My stomach growls as I realise I haven't eaten all day. I picked apart my lunch, but never took a bite. But I assume we'll eat later. Not that I will eat around them. I am already bigger than the rest of them, I wouldn't want to embarrass myself by eating around them...
I put the thoughts elsewhere as I focus on the streets. The trees we drove past, and the occasional person going past. It was about fifteen minutes of silence between us until he pulled into the parking lot of the bowling alley.
