I slip out the door, my stomach churning and my head pounding. My lack of sleep and lack of food in my system was making me feel fairly sick. I plugged my earbuds into my phone and began to blast Black Veil Brides.
I walk down the streets to the school, the sun warm on my skin.
For the first time in a while, I wore what I wanted to.
I had a Motionless in White shirt on, black skinny jeans, my black and white converse, a maroon beanie, and my band bracelets.
I walk across the lawn to the school. I lived less than a mile to the school so I was forced to walk, and the damp grass was gently hitting the small bit of exposed skin on my ankles. My converse and ankles were wet as I get onto the sidewalk underneath the overpass of the school. I round the corner and go up the stairs into the main hallway.
I walk to the stairwell and open the door. Another student passes me and snickers as he does so, but I simply continue to go up the navy blue stairs. I kept my focus on the ground, too scared to see people's reactions to my outfit.
I shouldn't worry as much as I was.
The upstairs maths hallway was one of the worse. Dirty floor that even if you washed it, it kept the dirty appearance. The pale blue lockers had the paint chipping off of them, had broken locks, and some slightly off their hinges. A couple tiles in the ceiling were also missing.
I take a left, and round the corner to the maths and science hallway. I take my first right into my maths class. It was dim in here, she never turned the lights on. That is just how she preferred it, and so did most students. The lighting in her room was odd and far too bright if she turned the lights on.
I put my backpack into my seat and turn to leave as the teacher comes in.
"Luke." She smiles.
Mrs. Taggert was a nice women. She had steaks of grey in her dark brown hair, and some faded hazel eyes. She was a bigger woman, mainly around the hip area.
"Hi." I return a smile.
"You've changed your style of dress." She states, looking at what I was wearing.
"I decided that it was getting warmer and I am far more comfortable in this." I explain, looking down at my apparel as well.
She was one of the few teachers that took action against bullying, more often than not against Michael, Ashton, and Calum bullying me. "It's good you're wearing what you prefer to wear, and not worrying about others." She tells me, and goes to her desk. She probably knew that I wore the heavy sweatshirts and such because of the harassment I received when I wore band merchandise and all black.
Without another word I slip out of the room into the hallway.
I wasn't sure where I was going to walk to exactly, until I headed all the way down the hall and continued to the stairwell. It was the stairwell everybody avoided, because of the odd smell.
The same stairwell Michael and I had our first real kiss. Nothing fake.
I go into the back hallway of the school and went into the lobby; planning to take a loop back up to Mrs. Taggert's room.
Then I see David, and he sees me. My first clear thought was to run down the hall back from where I came, and that is what I did. I sprinted down and opened the door once again to the same stairwell and quickly went up.
I see David and his three friends, Winston, John, and Quincy coming up the stairs after me. He never went anywhere without those three, not since we stopped being friends. He got involved in a bad crowd - very similar to a gang. Mainly drugs and fights. I've seen them on a black truck, going through down. Quincy and David would be on the back holding onto the car and John and Winston would be inside the car. They would blast music, one song in particular. I never knew the name but I heard it whenever I saw them pass. That was when they were going to a fight.
