*Two months later*
Graduation was less than weeks away. Michael sat down next to me with a large grin on his face, throwing his arm around my shoulders. "Hey babe, how do you feel about this being the last week of school?" He asked calmly.
Nerves were building up as I realised that he and I were going to be separated soon. So I shrugged, feeling down about having to leave the most comfortable spot. The thing you are forced to go to everyday, where people hate you and bring you down; is quite possibly the thing I was going to miss the most. Ashton and Calum sat across from the two of us, placing down their foam trays that had their lunch contents on it.
"You're eating, yeah?" Ashton asked me, and I gave him a small nod.
"That reminds me," Michael said, pulling out a paper bag. "We're sharing lunch, babe." Michael smiled, pulling out a sandwich that was already cut into halves. I was still have some trouble eating, but I have gained fifteen pounds. He gave me half of the ham and cheese sandwich.
"So Rebecca and I, you know." Calum smirked, hinting at something. The three of us groaned in disgust at the thought of a naked Calum Hood.
Michael cleared his throat and said, "Luke and I, you know." The two of them groaned as I placed my head down, hiding my blushing face. It was about three weeks ago that we decided to 'do it' - so to speak.
"You three are disgusting." Ashton told them, shaking his head.
"The thought isn't horrible. I mean, just think." Calum responded to Ashton, looking up to the ceiling.
"You're fucking gross." I laughed.
I was bullied anymore, not since I defended Michael. People were almost scared of me. Well, I mean, there is some people who still call me gay boy and I was okay with that. I was happy.
I was fifty-four days clean. Which was a big accomplishment for me, but I haven't had the need to do it. It had also been sixty-nine days since Michael has hit me and vowed to never hurt me physically again. Which I know abusers say, but I understand where Michael could have been coming from. I placed him in a very bad spot. "Friday is our last day in these halls of hell." Calum casually pointed out, sighing in relief.
"It was never too bad." I told him honestly.
"Everyone hated you." Calum responded curiously.
For the third time, I shrugged. "Hated as in past tense. I am happy now." I smiled.
"Even if you and Michael are going to different universities?" Ashton asked me.
The weight fell on my shoulders and my chest, knowing that Michael was going to be hundreds of miles away from me. "We'll be fine." Michael spoke up, pulling me closer into him. I looked up at him and placed a small kiss on his stubbly cheek, the beard he has been attempting to grow was unsuccessful and uncomfortable.
The bell rung and lunch was over, I took a bite of the sandwich Michael packed for me as I got up from the table. Calum and Ashton went their own ways, as Michael and I went ours. "Let's skip." Michael suggested.
"It's a couple days before classes end." I pointed out.
"Exactly." He smiled.
"Okay." I agreed. I held my bag tightly as we snuck out of the school and the warm fresh air filled my lungs. I see the same boy I punched a couple months ago and he glares at me as I do the same.
"Emo cutter." He hisses. I glance down at my uncovered arms as I don't respond. Michael doesn't speak up either, instead runs his hand down my scarred arm.
When we were out of sight, he lifted my arm up and kissed some of the scars. "Don't worry about it." He tells me. Most people ask me what happened and I usually make up extremely sarcastic responses.
I don't uncover them so that people would ask me what happened or for the attention. I was in the midst of healing, and that was reason enough. We get into the parking lot and we both get into Michael's warmed up car. "So where are we going?" Michael asks me, buckling himself in and turning on the car.
"Your house I guess." I replied nonchalantly. He pulled out of his space and began heading towards the road.
"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, you know." Michael said randomly as we drove down the road towards his house.
I looked out the window in attempt to hide the grin that he gave me. "Same here."
"You're very romantic, Luke." Michael chuckled at my unromantic response.
"I pride myself on it." I sarcastically played along.
He sighed, rubbing his temples with a smile on his face. We sat in silence for a few minutes, the wind blowing through his open window and words were not exchanged. "I love you." Michael told me.
"I love you too, skunk." I answered, giving reference to his black and white hair.
We drove into his driveway and looked at each other lovingly, knowing well that these days would be over soon.
