The following is a sneak peek for the upcoming xMrsHardy fanfic 'Pinned by the Plot'. A Damian Priest fanfiction. **Includes dual POV's**
Synopsis:
Avienne Lane has built her career crafting picture-perfect romances-but her own love life? That's a messy first draft. When her scumbag ex launches a public smear campaign against her, the queen of happily-ever-afters becomes public enemy number one. Fans feel betrayed and suddenly her career - and her sanity - are on the line. Desperate to reclaim her narrative, and stop her booksales from plummeting even further, Avienne agrees to one outrageous solution: fake dating her sisters best friend.
Luiz Martinez is exactly the type of man she writes about in her books but he is also everything Avienne avoids in real life: loud, bold, and a magnet for attention. After a backstage incident paints him in a bad light he needs something to turn the narrative.
It seems like a perfect solution to both their problems, their chemistry is undeniable, their banter electric, and soon, their staged relationship feels a little too real. But Avienne knows better than to fall for a man like Luiz-doesn't she?
As their charade spirals into chaos and her ex makes a shocking comeback, Avienne must rewrite the ending of their story. Because this time, her heart is on the line-and it might just get pinned.
Sneak Peek 1:
"This is a PR disaster, sis!" I groaned, pacing the room as my phone buzzed nonstop with notifications. Each ping was like a slap to the face. "My publisher said if I don't fix this, they're dropping me. I have to convince my readers that my failed relationship wasn't my fault!"
My sister leaned against the counter, arms crossed, unfazed by my meltdown. "What about a fake boyfriend?" she suggested casually, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
I froze mid-step. "A fake boyfriend?"
"Yeah. Pretend you've found your very own whirlwind romance. Just like in your books. Keep it sweet and public, then part ways as friends once the dust settles."
I blinked at her. "That's insane." Then, after a beat, I added, "So insane it just might work. But who?"
Her lips curved into a smirk. "I think I know someone."
Sneak Peek 2:
"No. Absolutely not." I crossed my arms and glared at my best friend like she'd just asked me to jump into a pit of snakes. "I'm not fake dating your sister."
"Oh, come on! It's perfect," she said, leaning against one of the equipment crates backstage like this was just another one of her brilliant ideas. "It'll help her clean up her PR mess, and it's a great way to show the world that you're not the playboy they're always making you out to be."
"I'm not a playboy," I shot back, narrowing my eyes.
She raised an eyebrow, folding her arms across her chest. "I know that but it doesnt help things that you are rediculously close with some of the women around here."
"Because you all are like sisters to me" I groaned
She snorted. "You dont have to convince me. Anyway, her readers think she's a fraud, and your PR guy is probably one more headline away from quitting. This is a win-win."
"This is ridiculous." I shook my head and turned away, hoping to end this conversation.
"You know what's ridiculous?" she said, following after me. "The fact that you're overthinking this. It's not real, Luiz. You're not actually dating her. You just have to show up, take a few cute photos, and look like you're madly in love for a little while. How hard is that?"
I turned back to her, pointing a finger. "She's your sister. If this goes sideways? Do you have any idea how awkward it'll be between the two of us if I screw this up? I dont want to lose a friend over this."
"You won't screw this up." She rolled her eyes. "Avienne's not fragile. She can handle it. And let's be real-you're more scared of the fact that you might actually like her."
I let out a harsh laugh. "You're insane."
"Am I? She's gorgeous, smart, and-hello-she writes romance for a living. What's not to like?"
"I don't care if she's the queen of England," I muttered, rubbing a hand over my face. "This is still a bad idea."
"But you'll do it," she said, that smug grin plastered all over her face.
I groaned. "Why do I let you talk me into these things?"
"Because I'm always right," she said, clapping me on the shoulder. "Now, let's go break the good news to Avienne. She's going to love this."
No, she wouldn't. And neither would I.
Sneak peek 3:
Luiz was sprawled out on my couch, taking up as much space as his massive frame could manage, which, frankly, was a lot. His feet were propped up on the coffee table like he owned the place.
"I live here too now, you know," he said casually, grabbing the remote before I could.
"You live here for appearances," I corrected, crossing my arms as I glared down at him. "Don't get too comfortable."
"I'm always comfortable," he replied with a lazy grin, patting the empty cushion next to him. "Come on, we're supposed to look like a happy couple. Snuggle in, babe."
"Don't 'babe' me," I snapped, making a quick move to snatch the remote from his hand.
"Careful," Luiz said, holding the remote just out of my reach, his voice dripping with mock seriousness. "Couples fight like this, and next thing you know, it's all over the tabloids: 'Romance Author Can't Keep Her Fake Boyfriend Happy.'"
I narrowed my eyes and took a step closer, putting on my sweetest voice. "Oh, don't worry, I'll make sure the headline is: 'Romance Author Bludgeons Fake Boyfriend with Remote.'"
That finally made him laugh, the deep rumble echoing through the room. But he didn't hand over the remote. Instead, he just smirked at me, clearly enjoying my frustration.
Living with Luiz Martínez was going to be the death of me. Or maybe him. It was a toss-up.
Sneak Peek 4:
The reporter was way too close for comfort, his mic practically brushing Avienne's chin as he fired off his question.
"So, Avienne, how does a romance author deal with a breakup scandal like yours?"
Before she could answer, I stepped forward, sliding an arm casually around her shoulders and flashing my best charming smile at the camera. "She writes a bestseller about it. You should read them sometime - I assure you that they have much better content than the questions you're asking."
The reporter blinked, taken off guard, and stumbled over his words. "I- I didn't mean-"
"No worries, buddy," I said, my voice light but firm, cutting him off. "I get it. It's not every day you get to meet someone as beautiful and talented as my girl here." I turned slightly, steering Avienne away from the mic with me. "But we're done here."
Avienne kept step with me, but as soon as we were out of earshot, she yanked away from my arm. "What was that?" she demanded, glaring at me.
"Defending your honor," I said with a shrug, as if it were obvious. "That guy's lucky I didn't just suplex him."
"You don't suplex reporters," she snapped, exasperated.
"Not yet," I said, smirking as I finally looked at her. "But the day's young."
She let out a frustrated sigh but didn't argue. "You're impossible, you know that?"
"Yeah," I said with a smirk. "But admit it, you're glad I stepped in."
She rolled her eyes but didn't deny it.
