Your pov,
Your parents were moving out of the house where you had grown up because it felt too big for them after you and your brother had moved out. This is why you were currently cleaning up your parents' attic. Since they were going to have less space they needed to throw some stuff out. It was a dusty place that had been mostly used for storage in the last few years.
You were sorting through some boxes when suddenly you found one filled with photos and photo albums. You had always been easily distracted and this time it was no different as you started snooping through some of the albums.
The first one you started snooping through seemed to be about the time when your parents started dating. They seemed so happy and young on those pictures that you decided that you wanted to keep that. Even their wedding photos were in there.
The more pictures you saw, the more nostalgic you started to feel.
Suddenly you noticed a picture frame in the box, it was covered in dust so you couldn't see the picture very clearly. You dusted it off to reveal... you. It was a picture of you and your childhood best friend. The two of you couldn't have been older than 5 and 7 years old.
You smiled as you thought back to that time. It was before you had even moved to this house. The two of you had been neighbours and had also become the best of friends at a young age. You were inseparable and played together every day. Your parents had moved you to another city when you were 9 years old.
You never again had a friendship as close as that one and hadn't heard from him since but you started to wonder what had become of him. You wondered about if he was happy and whether he would still think about you at times as well. It had been ages since you last saw him.
There was a sticky note attached to the back of the frame, you turned the frame around so you could read what was written on it. It was your mom's handwriting 'Y/N and Michael ages 5 & 7, may they always be this close'
Michael, the name sounded foreign to you, mostly because you had always called him Mikey. You couldn't for the life of you remember his last name, it had been something funny and unique though, that you could remember.
You decided to go downstairs and ask your mom about it. Of course you took the picture with you.
"Hey honey, you all done up there?" Your mom asked as you walked into the kitchen.
"Not really, I found this picture and got thinking." I said as I handed her the photo in question.
"Little michael, oh how fond you two were of each other." Your mom smiled as she looked at it.
"Do you remember their last name? I was thinking of trying to reconnect with him. I never had a better friend after all."
"Course I remember their last name. It was Mizanin, how could I forget an unusual name like that one." Your mom handed you back the picture "And I think it will be a great idea, you two were so close that I bet he would be thrilled to see you."
"Well then let's look him up." You smiled as you took out your phone and googled for Michael Mizanin. After all, like your mom said, he had an unusual name so how many people could there possibly be.
Apparently only one person popped up, the Miz, a wrestler for the WWE. This couldn't be him right? If it was then he had changed a lot and time had obviously been good to him. You started looking through all the info you could find about the Miz just to be sure that it was really your Mikey. Your childhood best friend.
You soon enough realised that it indeed was him and you decided to buy tickets to the first available wrestling show. Guess you were going to travel a few states but you didn't mind as you knew that it would lead you back to the boy that had made your childhood just a little more special.
_
A few days later it was time for the wrestling show. You had managed to get front row seats and were really excited. You didn't usually watch wrestling but you were willing to give it a fair shot.
The more matches and promos you saw, the more you got into it and suddenly there he was. A theme song played and Michael walked to the ring with a green briefcase in hand while flanked by another guy. Most people booed them but you just quietly watched as your childhood friend passed by.
Michael actually had to fight a match against this guy called Damian Priest who was also accompanied by someone, the guy with Damian didn't seem much like a wrestler.
You watched the match intently and cheered for mike even with the people around you shooting you angry looks " Come on Mikey!" You yelled and cheered. Unfortunately in the end Damian won but you were still proud of Michael.
After the show was over you decided to test your luck and walked up to the bouncer who was guarding the backstage area. "Hi sir?"
The bouncer acknowledged you with a nod "Ma'am"
"Look I know this might be unusual but I have a message for someone, mind delivering it for me? I know you won't let me do it myself but I do need to get him a message."
"Who is it for?" The bouncer asked curiously now.
"His name is Michael, Michael Mizanin. I believe he had a match earlier?"
"Sorry ma'am, we cant let anyone get to the wrestlers. I'm afraid I can't help you." the bouncer said.
You were about to give up when another voice spoke up from behind the bouncer. "But maybe I can."
It was the guy that you had seen with Michael earlier, he walked over to you with a kind smile. "Hi I'm John."
"Y/N" you smiled back at him "Nice to meet you."
"You too, you said you were here for Mike. Did you want an autograph or something?" John asked you, probably thinking you were a fan.
"Oh no, nothing like that." You assured him and handed him the picture that you of course had taken with you. "Michael and I are old friends."
"I think I've seen this one before." John said as he looked at the picture. "I believe Mike has a similar picture at his house. Let me go get him for you."
You waited as John went to get Michael. It didn't take long though and Michael actually had his eyes closed while John was guiding him to you "No peeking dude."
"Okay open your eyes." John told him once Michael stood in front you.
"Hey Mikey, it's been a while." You said as you watched the confusion on his face. "It's me Y/N."
"Wait Y/N?" Michael asked as John handed him the picture that had made you want to reconnect with him.
Before you knew it Michael was hugging you tightly "I can't believe it's you."
As you hugged him back you felt the familiar connection that you two always had return. Boy were you glad you made the decision of reconnecting with him now.
______________
So I was listening to the song Unity by Shinedown when this idea came to my mind. I loved the idea so much that I just had to write this. This one will also definitely get a part two soon!
