You rolled your eyes as your ex tried to call you for what felt like the millionth time this week. You had broken up with him a few weeks ago over text. Okay so that may not have been the classiest move ever but you figured that the cheater didn't deserve any better.
That week you had wanted to go out with your best friend when she had suddenly called you and told you not to come to the bar.
"Why wouldn't I come to see my best friend?" You asked, hoping that nothing was wrong with her.
"Don't come cause I see your man hitting on another girl." (B/F/N) told you, and you did not really want to believe her. "I don't think he has seen me yet, I'll try to eavesdrop for you."
Suddenly you could hear your so called boyfriend talking to someone and even though the music was loud, you could still hear him clearly "Nah that's over baby. When I met her she looked fine but the timing was wrong. She wasn't the one for me, that will always be you."
"So it's really over between you and (Y/N)?" The voice of the girl send chills down your spine, you knew that voice. It was one of your colleagues from work, one you had considered a friend and had even invited over to your house a couple of times.
"Yeah, she's history."
The answer that your now definitely ex gave her had you fuming and within seconds you stood up and started gathering your things, removing every trace of yourself from the house. You knew that (B/F/N) would be on her way to you as she had obviously heard the conversation along with you.
You had almost packed everything when she arrived so while you packed the last few things, (B/F/N) loaded your stuff into her car.
Once everything was loaded into the car you texted your now ex 'I was at the wrong time in the wrong place huh? Well have fun with the skank. Don't talk to me ever again.'
After that you blocked his number and (B/F/N) took you to her house where you had been staying for the past few weeks.
You had even quit your job since you were afraid you might attack your colleague if you ever saw her again.
Also somewhere during that week your ex got a new number just to keep texting you with apology after apology but you didn't want to hear it and had just ignored him instead yet it was getting annoying at this point.
You were just about to order another drink for yourself when someone beat you to it. "Bartender, a beer and whatever the lady is having."
You looked up to see one of the most gorgeous men you had ever laid your eyes on, although that could have been the booze talking. He had long dark hair, a very sexy short beard, a great smile and the most piercing blue eyes.
"Hi I'm Adam." He said as he sat down next to you. "I hope you don't mind. You just seemed like you were having a tough night and might need a drink, maybe even a listening ear?"
"(Y/N)" You introduced yourself "And yeah I needed a few drinks, my ex keeps texting me. Dumped his ass recently."
"Now what would he have done to make you this riled up?" Adam wondered out loud.
"Cheated on me with a colleague that I considered a friend." You sigh before draining your glass " I left him, quit my job because I'm kicking that colleagues ass if I see her again and yet he keeps wanting to apologise."
"Damn, you deserve better than that (Y/N)." He told you and for some reason you knew that he meant it.
"Thanks Adam" You smiled before suddenly something started to cross your mind "By the way, don't I know you from somewhere? I could swear that I've seen you before."
"Well, no we haven't actually met before. "He chuckled like he was amused by your comment.
"Shame." You shrugged but before you could continue your conversation with Adam you were interrupted by someone you now officially hated, your ex.
"(Y/N) I've been looking all over for you. Just let me explain babe."
You glared at him and if looks could kill he would have been six feet under right then and there.
"Speak of the devil, behold the cheating douche." You told Adam as you rolled your eyes
"Come on, you at least owe it to me to let me explain myself." He spoke up again as you hadn't answered him.
"Whoa, she doesn't owe you anything dude." Adam said as he stood up and stepped in front of you to block his line of vision to you. "You are the one who cheated while you already had a perfectly good and beautiful girl sitting at home. You fucked that up, not her. If anything, you owe her. Now she doesn't want to talk to you so I suggest you leave her be."
"And who might you be to speak on her behalf?" Your ex grumbled at Adam.
"I'm the guy who will do what you never could, treat her well."
You knew your ex better than to think he would just walk away, he didn't and actually took a swing at Adam. What surprised you though was the fact that Adam seemed to dodge his punch with ease and tripped him so that your ex fell on his ass.
"Now if you will excuse us." Adam said before paying for the drinks he had bought and gently pulling you out of the bar with him.
You were so confused about what had just happened. Adam, a man you had just met, had defended you from your ex. And that comment about treating you well did not help your confusion at all either.
"Thank you." You decided to say eventually "But you didn't have to do that Adam."
"Yeah I did, he wouldn't have left you alone if I hadn't. I did mean what I said by the way." Yeah that didn't help your confusion about the situation either.
"What do you mean?" You asked him.
"Let me treat you well, treat you better than he could. I actually came over to you because I wanted to ask you out but then I saw how hurt you looked. I'd still like the chance to take you out though so would you let me?" Adam actually looked a bit nervous as he asked you that and you thought to yourself that he looked pretty cute when nervous.
"Sure why not, let me give you my number." You agreed before putting your number in his phone.
As you laid in bed later that night you got a text saying 'Can't wait to see you again bay bay😉'
You smiled and saved Adam's number before falling asleep with nothing but one thing on your mind.
'I can't wait to see him again too'
