Goliath woke up with the first ray of light that filtered through the window. His eyes quickly adjusted to the dim lighting, and the first thing he saw was Narinder, with his serene expression and his even breathing, still dozing in bed. For a moment, Goliath simply watched him. The softness of his black fur contrasted with the firmness of his bearing, even while he was resting. But Goliath had something on his mind, something he couldn't put off any longer.
Carefully, he approached and rested his chin on Narinder's shoulder, giving him a gentle push.
"Hey..." he said in a low, almost whispering tone, "we need to talk."
Narinder half-opened his eyes, barely aware of his surroundings. Seeing Goliath's expression, he gave him a small smile, one of those he reserved for his husbands. However, that smile quickly faded when he noticed the serious tone in the goat's voice.
"What's wrong?" "Narinder asked with a slight hint of concern as he stretched out his arms.
Goliath sighed, looking away for a moment, but then fixing his gaze directly on Narinder's red eyes.
"I'll be direct," he said firmly, though his voice carried a vulnerable tone. "I'm a little jealous that you want another one more."
The words hit Narinder like a bucket of cold water. His body tensed instantly. For a second, his mind considered reading Goliath's thoughts, looking for some clue of what he really felt, but decided against it. He didn't want to invade his mind at a time like this.
"Jealousy?" Narinder murmured, trying to buy time while he processed what he had just heard.
Goliath nodded with a slight grunt of discomfort.
"Yes, jealousy."
Narinder, still somewhat disoriented, tried to clarify the situation.
"But... you had no problem with Lambert."
At that moment, Lambert woke up. He turned to them, his head still resting on the pillow, watching them with his big, bright eyes. He didn't say anything, he just listened, clearly curious but with no intention of interrupting.
Goliath let out a longer sigh, as if he were releasing a burden.
—Well, when I arrived, you two were already married. So I was the one who joined... I guess that made things easier. But now... —his voice cracked barely perceptibly— now I'm the one who feels that maybe someone else will leave me aside.
Narinder looked at him with a mixture of surprise and tenderness. He had never imagined that Goliath, with his strong and proud character, would harbor such insecurities. He reached out his hand and began to caress the goat's back, feeling the tense muscles relax little by little under his touch.
—Listen to me carefully, Goliath. Just because I fell in love with someone else doesn't mean I've stopped loving you. —His voice was soft but firm, full of sincerity. It's not a question of replacing anyone. No matter how many join our lives, my love for you is unique. There is no comparison.
Goliath looked at him, his eyes reflecting a mixture of doubt and hope. Lambert, from his place, smiled slightly and whispered sweetly:
—What Narinder says is true. We are not here to compete. We are all here because we want to be together.
Goliath looked down for a moment, thoughtful, but finally let out a short, somewhat resigned laugh.
—I guess... I can get used to this. But it doesn't mean I won't complain if the new guy tries to be smart. —His usual rough tone was slowly returning, although his words did not hide the affection he felt.
Narinder smiled, relaxing completely upon hearing that. He hugged him tightly again, also drawing Lambert into the shared embrace.
—That's what I love about you, Goliath. Never change.
Lambert, with a serene smile, broke the awkward moment with a suggestion that seemed too wise for such a sweet lamb.
—Trust is a key thing in a relationship, Goliath. If Narinder is willing to open his heart, you could also ask for something in return.
