EDITED.
(Avery's POV):
I stand in the locker room, in a corner by myself awkwardly. I have no friends and one person who likely wouldn't mind slitting my throat already, being Veronica. I'm going to have to watch my back for whatever friend group she's a part of. I push myself deeper into the corner in attempt to hide my body as I change. I can feel a set of eyes burning holes on my back as I slip on an athletics shirt. I try to focus on slipping a pair of shorts on, my eyes intently set on the cream tinted tiles of the changing room.
"Avery!" Someone calls. I take a deep breath, cringing at the smell of sweaty gym socks, and turn to see who was calling to me. I see a girl waving me over, and I can tell she's not someone who would be with Veronica trying to get at me. She looks like a pleasant girl, and doesn't appear to have any malicious intentions. I approach her after shoving my things into a the nearby gym locker that I had been assigned on my schedule.
"I'm in Zeke's pack." I walk over to her and she smiles. Her curly light brown hair is up in a tall ponytail, and she has warm brown eyes. Her olive skin glows, and the light amount of makeup she has on makes her look stunning. Just a small line of eyeliner and some mascara, but her eyes pop from the rest of her face.
"I'm in the lone wolf family that just moved here. But I'm assuming that Zeke actually sent you to be friends with me," I frown. I truly wouldn't be surprised if he did that. Being new to the area, it must pain him to see me all alone, only having him.
She returns the frown. "No. I just heard that you were Zeke's mate and how you were new here. I just thought you may want some female companionship. Boys, especially like Zeke, can be difficult to tolerate for a while," She chuckles, the smile reappearing on her face.
"By the way, I'm Sammy. And I already know who you are obviously," she laughs. "There's been talk all over the school of you and Zeke, especially after what he did to his beta when he first saw you."
So that was his beta that he punched yesterday morning. Gee, you think he would give his own beta some leeway for something like that, considering he didn't even know that Zeke and I were mates.
I change into my running shoes next to Sammy, who seems quite enthusiastic about finally meeting me. It makes me feel good. I never had many friends at my old school, especially female friends. Nobody wanted to be associated with someone that the alpha used, in fear that he would decide to move on to them. I certainly don't blame them for that. But the derogatory things they said to me were unnecessary, and I certainly do blame them all for that. But now I need to keep my head in the present. Focus on how good things are getting, rather than how bad they used to be.
Sammy and I walk out of the locker room beside one another, talking about how Zeke had brought me to his house the other day. "He literally picked me up and brought me to his car, and drove me to his house," I roll my eyes, but make sure to skip the part of what happened in the hallway.
Sammy laughs, "That doesn't sound too out of character for Zeke. He really just does what he wants and sometimes forgets to okay things with those it may effect."
I simply laugh in response as I tighten the ponytail I threw my hair into this morning. I look around the gym and the people getting warmed up for class. Some are doing jump rope and jogging laps, but a large group across the gym is playing basketball. That's where I notice Zeke, as the ball is passed to him and he throws it into the hoop. He made it look far too easy.
He notices me looking his way, and sends a cocky smirk to me. In response, I simply roll my eyes and snort at him. He seems to be getting quite a big head over tossing a ball into a hoop. He makes his way over the glossed gym floor towards me.
