EDITED.

(Zeke's POV)

I rush over to the hatch, which the autumn leaves had slid back onto, concealing the secret camp. Shifting back into my human form, I pull up the trap door and am met with a ladder leading down to a cavern, being the camp. Down at the bottom of the ladder, I see the man whiz past and into the cave.

I growl as he runs out of my sight, and begin climbing down the ladder.

When my feet hit the dry soil, I turn to see the camp before me. It's filled with bunk beds, and a large table with paperwork. A white board covers one of the walls, and a much larger elegant bed sits in the corner.

I can't believe it. I've found the camp! Avery will be safe, and I can make things right with her without the concern of Dylan looming above us.

But something is wrong. The camp is empty.

I listen intently, searching for the sound of the man breathing. He has to be in here, there is nowhere he could have gone.

The sound of his choked breaths comes from under one of the bunks. Quite an unoriginal hiding spot on his part, but really his only option. I approach the bunk, and crouch down.

"Just come out now. Make this easier on yourself," I say, looking under the bed. His hands are shaking in fear, and he pulls himself out from under the bed.  Sweat dribbles down his forehead, and fear is evident in his eyes. He knows he is incapable of taking on an alpha, and it's smart of him to not make an attempt to.

Mac, I found the camp. It's underground. It seems abandoned almost, but there's one rogue here. Follow my scent to the camp and bring him to the cells. I want to investigate, I say through the mind link.

Good thing, he chuckles in response. I was becoming concerned we would never find the hideout. I'll be there soon.

"Well," I say looking to the rogue before me. His head hangs, his greasy brown hair draped in front of his eyes. " Who are you, and where's the rest of you guys? What about Dylan?"

"I'm Connor. And where does it look like everyone else is?" He snaps. "The camp's abandoned. Dylan fucking gave up and backed out on his payments." His disrespectful tone irks my wolf, but what he had to say caught my attention.

"Then what were you doing here?" I ask.

"Left something behind," his eyes flicker to a nearby nightstand. At the same moment, the two of us fly to the table. Whatever he left here, he's desperate to get to it.

The drawer flies open, and a small pill bottle soars out of it, landing a few yards away from us.

He knows he could be tortured in captivity so he's trying to kill himself. Little fucker. Whatever he left behind was not in that nightstand.

We both dash from the nightstand and to the bottle, and I tackle him as he grabs ahold of it. His hand shakes with fear as he opens the bottle, but I knock it out of his hand. The pills spill onto the floor, and he crawls to grab one.

I push my knees onto his shoulders and grab his hands, smacking a pill out of his fingers. He growls in frustration as I pull him up, pushing him against a bunk.

At the very moment, Mac jumps down from the ladder rung, rushing to my side.

"Put him in a cell. Don't question him or anything. I'd like to do so when I return," I growl, my eyes narrowing into Connor's.

Mac nods, snapping a pair of handcuffs onto Connor and dragging him up the ladder. My eyes glance back to the floor, where pills cover the surface. I grab one, looking at the small white pill. It smells sugary and sweet, but is clearly poisonous. Deadly, really. It's a wolfsbane pill in a sugar casing. Just one pill could kill the strongest alpha.
