I slowly blinked my eyes open, the dim light filtering through the curtains soft against the darkness of the room. My gaze immediately landed on Taehyung, lying beside me, his strong, sculpted body bare, the gentle rise and fall of his chest a rhythmic comfort.
He was asleep, snoring softly in the most unassuming way, his face relaxed in a peaceful calmness that I rarely saw from him.
I was still caught in the surrealness of the moment, the quiet intimacy of having him here, beside me—vulnerable in sleep. My fingers itched to touch him, to feel the warmth of his skin. I let my hand trail over his face, brushing a lock of dark hair from his forehead, marvelling at how gentle he seemed in this rare, unguarded state.
I had never seen him this way, not in all the months I’d known him. Taehyung—the man of cold ruthlessness, the one who carried power and pain on his shoulders—was now nothing more than a weary man, resting in my arms as if the weight of the world had been momentarily lifted from him.
He applied the medicine to my skin, tending to me in his unspoken way. Yet, in a rare act of vulnerability, he had traded places with me, curling into the space I had left behind. His exhaustion was palpable, evident in the way he lay still, his breathing deep and slow, as if he hadn’t had a proper rest in ages.
But as I gazed at him, something prickled at the edges of my awareness, something unfamiliar and unsettling. The quiet of the room felt thicker, charged in a way I couldn’t quite explain. A sudden sound pulled my attention from him, sharp and startling—the soft crash of a flowerpot falling near the balcony.
The sound echoed in the room, leaving an eerie silence in its wake.
I froze, my breath catching. There was something… something else, just beyond the periphery of my vision. My eyes instinctively darted to the other side of the room, searching the shadows. It was faint, almost imperceptible, but it felt like someone or something was there, lingering just out of sight. I quickly turned back to Taehyung, relieved to find him still asleep, undisturbed by the noise.
Still, the unease didn’t dissipate. The air had shifted—was it just my imagination, or was there something more? The curtains on the balcony fluttered slightly in the breeze, the cold air creeping in like a ghostly presence. A chill ran down my spine, though Taehyung remained oblivious in his slumber. I was grateful for that; I didn’t want to disturb him, not when he was so drained.
