“Taehyung…” she let out a heartbreaking wail as the bullet went through her back. I was taken aback by her abrupt move to shove me away from the railing. “Ready to be a defender, not a betrayer…” she murmured, beaming a smile, and the air reverberated with the sound of another gunshot.
I moved to her, but the bullet hit her in the chest, and before I could get to her, she fell off the back railing like a bleeding puppet. I extended my hand, but all I managed to catch was air.
I was anticipating this to happen.
Nevertheless, not in this way.
The bullet was going to hit me, not her.
My eyes grew wide as I saw her tumble into the swift-moving river while smiling at me. I grabbed the railing when I heard Liam yelling, “Amelia!” He and I dived into the river together.
The frigid water hit my face with tremendous force. My entire body hurt like the water was swallowing me whole. I rapidly used my hands and legs to assist me swim to the surface, forgetting the anguish in my body. After catching my breath, I began looking all around for her.
Liam was also searching for her by loudly calling out her name as if she might respond to him. Idiot. I was tempted to drown him in this water and fucking kill him.
My gaze drifted to a spot an adequate distance from where I was standing, and for some reason, the current of water was flowing in the opposite direction. As I made my way into that area, I noticed a shard of the fabric she was wearing lodged in a broken tree branch. I started swimming fast in that direction.
Although I didn’t find her there, I noticed that the colour of the running water was turning slightly red. Adrenaline skyrocketed through my veins as I continued swimming and found her frail body stuck between two enormous rocks.
“She is here,” I said and proceeded in her direction. Without waiting for anyone to arrive, I used all of my physical strength to push a rock away before lifting his frail body into my arms.
“Amelia!” With a heartbreaking cry, Liam stepped closer to me while keeping his eyes down on her.
I held her frail body against my chest. “Idiot, head to the coast. Help me get her out of here,” I yelled, giving him a fierce look. Liam snapped out, turned his attention away from her, and began swimming in the direction of the coast. I took a stronghold of her body with one hand and used the other to swim behind Liam.
“Chief, hand me Amelia and get out of the water,” Liam said as he approached the coast. Hyeon and all of my men were already there. I gazed down at her, damp hair covered her face. “Chief!” Liam yelled, for the first time, I was witnessing him lose his fury.
We had to get her to the medical centre as quickly as possible for treatment, so I placed her frail body into Liam’s arms without any delay.
I swiftly came to the surface to find Liam sobbing while cradling her body in his arms and Hyeon encouraging him through this mad stage.
