“Is he still here?” I asked Jenna, who was lying on my bed reading a romantic novel that she had bought a few days ago.

“Yes. The chief will stay here until evening.” Jenna took her gaze off the novel and fixed it on me. “Are you going to give this to him?” she asked in a bored tone, pointing toward the opera show tickets that were on the side table.

“Yes, that’s why I have brought them,” I answered her in a confrontational tone. “Didn’t I tell you how hard it was to get these tickets? I had to stand in the queue for four hours. This show is more popular than I thought.”

“Amelia…” Jenna called out my name in a frustrated tone.  “I’ve always supported you, Bella, but today I think you shouldn’t. In the last year, you have come to know very well what kind of person he is. He doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings. And I’m sure he won’t think twice before breaking your heart by rejecting your gift.”

I chuckled. “Who hasn’t broken my heart, Jenna?” I arched my brow, laid my head back on the couch and relaxed. “Justine, my first love, broke my heart. Alessandro, the man I loved more than myself, also broke my heart. Even my grandfather and my father left no stone unturned to break my heart. No one ever thought twice before breaking my heart, perhaps they knew that my heart was meant to be broken.”

“No, Bella…” a sad expression covered Jenna’s beautiful complexion. “Don’t let anyone break your heart, and that’s why I’m telling you not to repeat the mistakes you’ve made in the past.”

“And believe me, Jenna. By doing this, I’m preventing myself from repeating mistakes from my past.” I said and flashed a gorgeous smile at her.

“What do you mean, Amelia?” she raised her brow in confusion.

“You know what my biggest mistake was?” I asked her, putting on my stockings.

“Yeah—” she nodded. “Trust others?”

“Yes, it was but I made other mistakes as well. The mistake of falling in love—with the wrong person— The mistake of considering them more important than myself.” I rested my face on my palm and met Jenna’s gaze. “And now he’s tempting me to repeat my past mistakes by making me think about him, but this time I will not let anything like this happen. I don’t want to fall in love with someone like him.”

“You don’t want to fall in love with the chief?” Jenna asked as got up from the bed and sat beside me on the couch.

“I really don’t want to at all…” I released a long sigh. “His behaviour towards me in the last year has never bothered me, but since the last few days he has been behaving differently with me, and because of this, my heart and mind have been consumed by the thought of him. I am curious to know the story behind his suddenly different behaviour toward me and how he acted so strangely that night.”
