I tiptoe down the stairs. Not wanting to wake anybody up at five in the morning. I take out all the stuff needed to make eggs, sausage and bacon. Getting to work, I'm done in twenty minutes time. I turn on the coffee maker on. Wanting to make everything perfect. So far, summer has gone by in a blink of an eye. Waiting for August fourth to come around. Finally it has. I put the plates and forks on the table. Setting down the juices and cups I wait for them to come down. Mrs. Creeving comes down the stairs first. Her eyes widen at the sight of everything. I carry the pot of boiling water in my hand over to her.
"Tea or coffee?" She looks suprised to see me like this.
"Tea please!" Her voice comes barely above a whisper. She sits in the chair. Resting her head down on the table as I bring over her tea. "Thanks." I'm surprised when she says this. I give a slight nod of my head. Footsteps come down the stairs. I start serving food onto the plates. Bailey arrives first in the kitchen. She looks from the food to me than back to the food. Not believing what she's seeing. Max and Taylor arrive next. Than the twins. After everyone is settled down, footsteps sound on the stairs one last time. Mr. Creeving barges into the kitchen. Staring at me, he starts talking,
"Is there something that you wish to tell us, Skylar?"
I open my mouth a couple of times, before deciding on what to say. "I got an email last night. I don't know how they knew about me, but I've been asked to go to a school called Silverleaf. I'm getting picked up today by a guide who's going to take me into Seattle for shopping to get everything I need." I take a breath before continuing. "I'm going no matter what you say. I have money saved up, so I'll buy everything I need by myself." I look at their faces, which are all straight.
"Alright then," I'm surprised that Mr. Creeving says this. A smile spreads across Baileys face.
"What is it Bailey?"
"I no longer have to worry about you!" My mouth opens in shock when she says this.
"Why would you have to worry about me anyway?" She has always been the worst to me. Next to Mrs and Mr. Creeving. "I've always been able to take care of myself."
"You're only thirteen, so someone should worry and look after you."
"Thanks for that," I don't understand why, but I still am grateful. I look at the time. Only an hour left. "Well I'll be upstairs!" Suddenly happy, I sprint up the stairs. I change into my only pair of jeans that fit me and a black v-neck. I pull on my white zip-up, just as the doorbell rings. I reach underneath my pillow and grab my small pouch. I quickly run out the door and sprint down the stairs. "I'll be back later," I yell. I open the door and almost run into the person who is suppose to be taking me around Seattle. I look up and find a woman who must be in her thirties staring down at me. Her hair is done in a shoulder length ponytail.
"Skylar Brown." She doesn't make it sound like a question, but I answer it like one.
"That would be me!" A smile spreads across my face.
"You ready to go?" How could I not be?
"Yupperdoodles!" I hop down the last steps. I turn back to look at her, "Hey, I never got your name?"
"You can call me Mrs. Madden for now." I didn't pay attention to the for now part as I run to catch up to her. She walks over to a small blue car. "Hop in." She didn't have to tell me twice. I sit in the passenger seat. The little money I have jingling in my small pouch.
"How much money will I need?" I really hope that it's not a lot. I only have thirty dollars.
"Your real parents have left you a bunch of money. So don't worry about it."
