This feels so strange.
Evangeline sat in the astronomy tower watching the sunset at Hogwarts.
She had missed it sorely.
Remus sighed gently next to her.
"What's on your mind?" she questioned.
"It's Harry's last year here," he answered, "feels strange. It feels... melancholic. James and Lily should be here to see him graduate. He won't have his parents in the crowds celebrating him like the rest."
"He's got us."
He nodded.
"I miss them."
"I know."
She took his hand, placing a kiss on it. She moved it to her cheek, Remus smiling at her nuzzling her cheek into his palm.
"I've got you," he quietly said, his thumb brushing over her cheek.
"You do."
He removed his hand from her cheek. Folding his hands together in his lap, "you're more than enough for me."
She let out a small laugh.
"Well I would hope so, Remus."
"You know what I mean."
Remus missed his lost friends dearly. He spoke of them more often when they were at Hogwarts, Evangeline noticed. She knew it was because of the memories he shared with them here. He would often smile as well, though. But she hated how that smile would slip away when he thought about the events that followed afterward.
"The Whomping Willow- they planted that for me," Remus said.
She had heard this story a million times over.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, so that I could have safe passage to the Shrieking Shack during transformations. Always thinking of me, James was. Lily didn't know about my condition, but I didn't forget how she looked at me when she saw the Whomping Willow for the first time. It wasn't a bad look, no no it wasn't. It was just a look of knowing, you know?"
She nodded.
"Anyways, I'm rambling."
"It's alright."
"It's getting a bit late. I'm going to turn in for the night. Are you staying?"
"For a bit longer, yeah."
Remus stood up and placed a kiss on her head before leaving the tower.
Evangeline left the tower shortly after Remus, deciding to take a cup of tea into the library for some late night reading. It was late enough to where no students would be there. She wandered into the restricted section, smiling at the memories she had of when she would try and sneak in.
She picked up a Dark Arts book, taking a seat with it.
"Planning on trying your hand at immortality, are you?"
She snapped her head up to the male voice that suddenly flooded her ears.
"What are you doing here? Who are you?" she asked, quickly closing her book.
The brunette man in front of her looked too old to be a student, yet a little young to be a professor.
"I was late to dinner- but I'm the new librarian assistant. D-do you not remember me?" he asked, shyly smiling as he put his hands into his pockets.
"Assistant?"
"Miss Bernard kicked the bucket, remember?"
Evangeline nodded.
