It's now the day of the trial. Standing amongst the others in the elevator makes me feel queasy. The other's faces, filled with utter despair. They couldn't solve the case. They couldn't do it. And yet why do I have a sinking feeling something might go terribly wrong?

I stand leaning against the corner of the elevator, with Byakuya standing before me, refusing to turn around. The elevator holts and opens to reveal the trial room for the final time.

Maybe that's why I feel so ill. The fact that all these people around me don't know they're going to die today. They don't know this is their final day at this school. It's the end of routine and I don't know how to feel about it.

Why do I allow myself to be controlled by this man so much? I'm the mastermind, I'm the one in control and I fear I blew it. It should be fine. I should stop worrying before something slips out that isn't supposed to.

Everyone makes their way to their podiums, glancing down at the floor in hopelessness or with a stoic expression on their faces.

ALL RISE

"May the class trial.... BEGIN! Puhuhu!"

Silence. No one even pipes up a word. No initial suspects, accusations or observations. The silence was truly chilling but is broken at Kyoko's start.

"I understand this was a difficult case to solve but we cannot give up now. Let us start with what we don't know."

"What we don't know?" exclaims Yasuhiro. "We don't know anything! We're gonna die man!"

Kyoko sighs and Byakuya scoffs at his panic.

"I think what Kyoko means is what we have not been able to find out. For example, we know Toko was stabbed but no knives were missing. What can we deduce from that?" Explains Sakura.

"It could mean the murderer cleaned it very well..." ponders Aoi.

"As the murder was very obviously committed on the dormitory floor, I highly doubt the murderer acquired, say, a kitchen knife from the cafeteria and ran all the way down there when it was cleaned to put it back.  I'd wager this mysterious knife belonged to someplace else or the blackened was extremely athletic."

Sakura and Aoi give a sour glance at Kyoko.

"If you don't like what I have to say about this near-impossible case, I suggest you two come up with your own ideas instead of pouting. We have no time for pulling silly faces."

"Actually, I might have something to add." Interrupts Makoto.

"With the keys we found in the door, they were all the same right? All of them being Toko's dorm room. Perhaps that means that whoever the killer is... it means someone in this room is, for a fact, the mastermind."

"Makoto, I thought that was made clear when Monokuma said something about asking not to interfere or something along those lines. The fact you couldn't deduce that yourself like the others is utterly embarrassing." I add.

"Woah.. hey lady, there is no need to be so rude. I didn't quite catch that from Monokuma either." muttered Yasuhiro.

"You're not any better peabrain. You're 23 and still in high school."

"Erm... I'm actually only 21."

"Whatever, that's still outrageous."

"Enough guys! Our lives are seriously on the line right now! If it truly is the mastermind who committed this murder then why?!" chirped Aoi.

"That is a good question to pose. You'd think the mastermind would set up this game to watch us suffer in despair, why decide to end it now? If we fail to find them, we die, if we succeed, we will all be set free. This means today is our last day in this courtroom, this school, this torment." verbalized Kyoko.

"I feel like I'm gonna be sick. This case feels like we can't ever solve it so our chances of survival are almost 0!" squeals Aoi.

I watch all their faces. Even with this small talk and discussion the despair is there, maybe even more so. Aoi looks like she's on the verge of tears, Sakura and Makoto having clear disappointment in their eyes, and Kyoko with determination on her face.

Byakuya was oddly silent throughout this trial, not responding and only listening. As the trial continues, theories and discussions stagger awkwardly.

"Iiii'm BORED! This trial is soo slow. So I suppose I can give you a little clue that you lot can go off of. Are ya ready!?... The blackened is.... ding ding ding! The mastermind!"

"But we already thought we knew that!" complains Yasuhiro

"It was a thought but not a guarantee. Thank you Monokuma, you're confirmation has helped us greatly." voiced Kyoko.

What the fuck does that robot think he's doing? I never asked him to say that.

"Now we have concrete evidence that the killer is the mastermind we can now think motive. Something that can help us connect the two. So what could the motive be?"

"Saying it aloud makes it seem easier to figure out but in reality is still a difficult situation. We do not know this person's thought process and feelings. Whoever the mastermind is, they are extremely intelligent, they know what they are doing. We haven't had a single clue since we got here what makes you think we can figure it out now?" says Sakura.

"So are you saying you want to give up? You want this despair to get to you. Do you have a death wish Sakura!? Do you want us to die?" Cried Aoi.

"If you end with the emotional semantics, I have a theory on motive." interrupts Kyoko.

Everyone turns to face her.

"I believe our mastermind to be... bored."

Shit. Shit. Shit.

"Bored? Why would the mastermind be bored? Don't they get enough death in this abysmal place anyway?" I ask

Kyoko glares at me as Aoi speaks.

"To be fair, {Y/N} has a point. What would be the difference between the mastermind watching deaths vs carrying out one themselves?"

Kyoko continues to glare at me while answering Aoi.

"Well, maybe the mastermind was bored the whole time."

"Kirigiri is right." Byakuya announces.

My heart sinks at his words.

What...

"The culprit is {Y/N} {L/N}."
