i look around hysterically trying to shove the keys into the ignition cylinder. the keyrings clang against each other as i turn it in the hole before thumping back into my seat in panic. i have no idea where he is and all i can do is look around town near the airport and just hope i can see his face in one of the windows.

"i can drive you if you want" iceman proposes his arm outstretched to offer me a hand.

i feel axis shake her head next to me, she shifts in her seat manoeuvring her foot towards the acceleration pedal. "its fine ill drive her." she states firmly.

iceman nods taking a few steps back from the car "i hope it goes okay." he mutters "i really thought you two were going to make it".

i give him a strained smile, part of me thought we were going to make it as well, i mean hell i've been with guys in the past, sure. but i've never gotten as close as i was to marriage with any one of them than i was with mav, and now its all gone.

the car rumbles beneath me as axis revs the engine, i give everyone a small wave before closing my door and slumping back into my seat. i don't say anything as axis drives through town, my mind overrun with fleeting thoughts. i stare out the window watching the trees sway majestically in the wind. abruptly my eye catches sight of a bar just outside the airport, the windows are large, their glass towering for what looks like miles above me. i spot a head of dark hair slouched over the bar, clutching a small glass of liquid.

"stop." i request my feet moving on their own as i try and clamber out of the car.

axis' hand comes flying at my chest pushing me back down into my seat "let me park or you'll break a leg trying to jump out of a moving car".

i plummet back down, my leg bouncing anxiously as axis drives her head swivelling around as she tries to find a space away from the constant roar of jet engines and planes taking off from the runway. i keep my eyes trained on maverick; he's not facing me but i can already tell he's upset.

once axis finds a space she pulls in it, her hand turning to switch off the engine, she takes her foot off accelerator and leans back "do you want me to come with you?" she asks.

i shake my head in reply, i know i need to confront him myself or i'll never forgive myself for allowing someone else to do it for me. "no, its fine, ill speak to him alone."

axis purses her lips, her head bobbing up and down "good luck then".

i throw her a weak smile before scrambling out of the car, my legs carrying me as fast as possible towards the door. i yank it open, jostling my way through the crowds of people, muttering quick apologies as i pass. i stride towards him, my eyes narrowed.

"maverick" i say sitting down next to him, my hand gently brushing against his shoulder.
he looks up at me, his brow knitted together, his face dripping with sweat. i glance down at his glass, still half-full. his eyes are glazed over, his usually set jaw slack. he's drunk.the bartender clears his throat, his hand lodged in a cloth that moves over a glass, he looks at me expectantly.
