once i've put my stuff down on the counter i spot axis sitting on the couch staring up at me with a concerned look on her face, she pats the space next to her repeatedly, beckoning me over. i trudge my way over sitting down on the plush cushions.
axis looks at me with an insightful glance "what's the matter" she questions
i sigh burying my head in my hands "iceman, he went rooting through mav's wallet and found a picture of me, mav is worried he's going to tell the higher ups and get us kicked out"
axis shakes her head "iceman won't, he likes the competition so if maverick is out of the job he'll have nobody to race for the higher spot since we dropped out of the race, look we'll confront him tomorrow see what he says"
i raise my head from my hands and nod feeling a little better "i feel like maverick is pissed at me though, i suggested breaking up and he got real mad"
axis gives me a look that says 'well that was stupid' "yeah that wasn't the best thing to suggest but he'll be over it by tomorrow"
"okay that makes me feel better" i reply "i'm gonna head to sleep"
axis gives me a nod in acknowledgement before turning her attention to whatever crap movie she is watching on tv. i make my way towards my bedroom stripping out of my clothes and slipping my nightgown on. i climb into bed pulling the covers up to my chest trying not to lie in the cold space next to me which usually would be maverick's, i slept alone for years before i met maverick but now i can hardly bare it whenever he doesn't stay at night.

the next morning i sleep through my alarm and wake up late, i rush around frantically fixing my hair, washing my face, brushing my teeth and shoving my flight suit on. when i finally step out of my bedroom axis is waiting by the front door, my lunch in hand.
"oh thank god axis i don't know what i would do without you" i say talking my lunch and putting it away
"your welcome" she assures me tugging at my hand frantically "we're late, let's go"
"oh shit" i mutter rushing out the house after axis turning my key in the door behind me.
i clamber into the passenger seat clicking my seatbelt into place and fixing my hair in the sun visor as axis speeds off towards top gun. i stare at the sunrise, the sky painted with a kaleidoscope of pastel colours casting a warm glow over the area. the sea crashes gently against the beach it's waves glistening in the sun.
