The soft patter of rain against the window was the first thing Taehyung heard as he stirred awake, his body still warm from sleep.

The second was the unmistakable presence of Jungkook—solid, warm, and wrapped around him like he had no intention of letting go.

Taehyung barely moved, suddenly hyper-aware of everything.

The slow rise and fall of Jungkook’s chest against his back.

The faint scent of rain and something distinctly Jungkook, warm vanilla, a hint of sandalwood, traces of whatever cologne he used last night.

And then there was the hand.

A firm, possessive arm resting on his bare waist beneath the covers, fingers splayed like they belonged there.

Taehyung swallowed, heat crawling up his neck.

He could not believe this was real. That Jungkook was real. That everything that happened last night was real.

As if sensing his thoughts, Jungkook made a low, sleepy sound before shifting closer, his breath tickling the nape of Taehyung’s neck.

“You’re awake,” Jungkook murmured, his voice still husky with sleep. His grip tightened slightly, pulling Taehyung even closer. “Why’re you so tense?”

Taehyung squeezed his eyes shut. “I’m not.”

Jungkook hummed, amused. “You are. I can practically hear you overthinking.”

Taehyung groaned, trying to roll away, but Jungkook easily countered it, pulling him back with ridiculous ease.

“No running away,” Jungkook chuckled, pressing his lips against Taehyung’s shoulder. “Let me hold you.”

Taehyung bit his lip, completely melting at the words. He let himself sink into Jungkook’s warmth, exhaling slowly.

Outside, the rain hadn’t stopped. It poured in soft, steady waves, filling the air with the scent of earth and freshness.

“first rain after summer, it was generous,” Taehyung mumbled, half to himself. “It’s still going.”

Jungkook hummed in agreement, nuzzling into Taehyung’s hair. “Yeah. Last year, I spent my birthday alone, watching it from my apartment.”

Taehyung stilled. “Your birthday?”

“Mm,” Jungkook confirmed, lazily rubbing circles on Taehyung’s hip. “this year… I get to spend it with you.”

The words were soft but firm, settling deep into Taehyung’s chest.

“When is it?” he asked, turning slightly to look at Jungkook.

“September 1st.”

Taehyung gasped, suddenly fully awake. “That’s only two weeks away!”

Jungkook grinned, propping himself up slightly. “You sound more excited than I am.”

“Well, yeah!” Taehyung frowned, thinking hard. “I need to plan something—”

“No you don’t.” Jungkook laughed, tilting his head as he examined Taehyung’s naked form under covers. “You’re enough of a present.”

Taehyung’s ears burned, and he smacked Jungkook’s chest.

Jungkook just caught his wrist, eyes dancing with mischief. “What about you? When’s yours?”

“December 30th,” Taehyung answered, stretching out his fingers in Jungkook’s grip.

Jungkook nodded. “So you’ll be twenty-five this year?”
