The doctor arrived within minutes, and Jungkook barely let him step inside before he was guiding him to Taehyung's side.
The older man assessed Taehyung carefully, his face unreadable as he checked his pulse, his temperature, and the raw, empty look in his eyes.
Jungkook sat beside them, gripping Taehyung's freezing hand, his own heart thudding with fear.
After a long silence, the doctor sighed.
"He's been in shock, but more than that, he's emotionally drained. His body shut down as a response to extreme stress."
Jungkook swallowed, feeling an unbearable weight settle on his chest. "What do we do now?"
The doctor reached into his bag, pulling out a small bottle of sedatives and another of calming medication.
"I'll prescribe a mild sedative to help his nerves relax. But more importantly, he needs support. He did this to numb his feelings, Jungkook. Whatever he's been through... it's scaring him so much that he chose to escape his feelings."
Jungkook looked at Taehyung, his heart aching at the way his lover's eyelashes trembled, how even in his sleep, his body still reacted to whatever was tormenting him.
It hit him then.
Taehyung couldn't bear to lose him. he wasn’t scared for himself, rather of losing Jungkook.
And Jungkook, too, he was terrified of losing him.
The doctor sighed. "Give him space, but don't let him be alone. He needs to feel safe."
Jungkook nodded, voice hoarse. "Thank you, doctor."
As the night stretched on, Jungkook never left Taehyung's side.
He held his hand, watching the rise and fall of his chest, memorizing every detail of his face.
Thinking.
Planning. Every possibility.
Because this, this cycle of fear, of suffering, has to end.
He would make sure of it.
The next morning, Taehyung stirred, eyelashes fluttering open.
His body felt heavy, his mind hazy. He turned his head, expecting warmth beside him, but the bed was empty.
Panic flared in his chest.
And just as he started to panic, the door creaked open.
Jungkook stepped inside, balancing a tray of soup, his brows furrowed in concentration as if this were the most important mission of his life.
"morning sunshine," he teased, setting the tray down. "I brought you the elixir of life."
Taehyung didn't respond. half tired, half guilty.
Jungkook tried again. "You know, I had to fight an old lady at the market for the fresh veggies. She was feisty!"
Nothing.
The silence stretched, and Jungkook's smile faltered. he sat down.
His jaw clenched. Then, softly but firmly, he said, "What you did yesterday was unfair."
Taehyung tensed.
Jungkook's voice wavered. "Do you know what I felt when I saw you like that?" He swallowed hard. "I thought I was losing you."
Still, Taehyung didn't speak. But his shoulders shook slightly.
A tear slipped down his cheek. Then another.
