Hey everybody, it's your girl Rose! I hope all of you are doing well. I know it's been a long minute, and I definitely didn't intend for my hiatus on this story to last as long as it did, but please believe me, there was a lot going on. The bright side is it gave me a lot of inspiration to bring back to this story. No matter what you've been going through in the meantime—whether you've gone back to school, started a new chapter in your life, or you're just trying to navigate everything as usual—I'm sending you my best vibes.
I just wanted to take a moment to connect with you all and reintroduce you to my baby, Time Waits for No One. This story has meant so much to me for a long time. Having these characters and this story in my head for nearly a decade has been quite the journey, and finally getting to share it with you all over the last two years and seeing your responses has been incredibly rewarding.
As I've mentioned before, my approach to writing has changed along the way. I used to write chapter by chapter, but as I went along, I started thinking of this story more like a television show. So, what you've read so far? That's what I'm calling Season 1. The opening arc is about Michael and Jacqueline meeting, learning more about their backgrounds, and discovering where they come from, all building to that pivotal moment where they take a step back as Jimmy and Margaret get engaged.
I'm excited to let you know that in the time I've been away, I've mapped out Season 2 completely and I'm so excited to share the first chapter with you all.
Frist, I wanted to share a few things with you, starting with the Season 1 soundtrack. Music is such a vital part of my storytelling. As an ethnomusicologist and music journalist, it shapes the mood and adds depth to the characters and their journeys. Every song has been specially picked with intention and a very close attention to detail about what the characters would have been listening to. Like my favorite directors, Scorsese and Spike Lee, music also help to lock in the setting. This playlist includes all the songs from Season 1, along with some that inspired me and sneak peeks at tracks that will play an important role in Season 2.
I also want to share some films and documentaries that influenced me. If Beale Street Could Talk, directed by Barry Jenkins and based on the book by James Baldwin, was a huge inspiration. Our face claim for Jacqueline, Kiki Lane, stars in that film, and I was moved by the bitter sweet Harlem love story, the way they portrayed a tight knit family like the Carters, and the absolutely stunning love scenes! Highly recommend any version of this amazing work.
