DARIA TURNED IN THE TOYS SECTION IN THE SUPERMARKET SHE FOUND HERSELF IN.

"In a few days it's Luke's birthday. I am panicking. The only two things I know about him are that he likes to jump pantless and that he is the complete opposite of my brother," Daria counted on her fingers before stopping some seconds in thought "which makes gift shopping so much easier now that I think about it"

As she moved around the aisle looking for things her brother would hardly ever enjoy. She passed the board games without even throwing a glance at them, going quickly to the more active games. Her eyes scurried through the toys looking for the best one, setting her eyes on some night vision goggles.
Daria went to grab it, to look at it better, when she felt a cart nudge her slightly as a woman stopped next to her to grab some other toy. The girl turned to glare at her before turning to the toy again, nudging the cart to have better access to the shelf.
The woman stumbled before pushing the cart in Daria's direction without hitting anything, seeing as the young woman moved out of the aisle, making the woman lose her footing.
Daria continued her shopping unbothered, buying some things for herself, some for her father asked her to buy and some things her mother asked her to buy.

The day of the birthday, Daria was sitting on her mother's couch just reading a book, while her mother folded the covers they used the night before at their movie night.
"Hey Gloria, you got any idea how to wrap one of these things?" Jay asked, coming down the stairs.
"Put it in a box and wrap it." Daria replied without looking up from the book. "It's what I do-" the girl interrupted herself as she looked up. "Is- is that a-?"
"Is that a crossbow?" asked Gloria, looking kind of nonchalant.
"Yeah" replied Jay looking at the two women. "Am I the greatest grandpa in the world or what?"
"We can't give Luke a crossbow. He pokes himself in the eye every time he uses a straw" Gloria tried to get her husband to see reason
"Are you kidding? I had one of these when I was his age" Jay exclaimed.
"I don't think you poked yourself in the eye every time you used a straw when you were his age" Daria commented, glancing at the older man before turning back to her book.
"My dad used to give me a quarter for every crow I bagged" Jay ignored the girl.
"And I used to have a machete," Gloria shrugged. "but times have changed"
