When I opened the hospital room door to my dad's room, I was met with a curtain. The curtain slowly pushed open a bit and out stepped my mom. She rushed over to me and wrapped her arms around me. "Oh, Hunny I am so happy to see you."
I embraced her, feeling emotion take over me, but I swallowed the tears and immediately asked her, "Is he okay?" Before she could answer, a deep voice from the other side of the curtain spoke.
"A little stroke couldn't knock me out kid," it was my dad's voice, him chuckling at the end of his cocky sentence. My mom pushed the curtain open, "He woke up just a bit ago," she said smiling.
My dad was smiling as I walked over to him, his arms opening up for me to hug him. I did so, and I couldn't help but shed a few tears in our embrace. When he let go, I noticed the chords coming from his arms and pads stuck to his chest. "Are you okay?" I couldn't help but ask, still not believing he was in front of me.
"Yeah, my cheek is a little numb feeling right now and I just feel really tired and worn out," I noticed he was out of breath by the time he finished talking, and even though he tried to keep smiling I knew he was in a bit of pain.
We caught up for a little bit, and the doctors said he would be able to leave tomorrow morning and come rest at home.
After a few more minutes of hugging and just talking with my parents, I decided it was time to bring Kennedy in.
"Well, I brought someone with me that I'd like you to meet," my mom lit up instantly, "Oh my goodness, who?" I ran over to the door and opened up seeing Kennedy still standing there as she smiled up at me. "Come on," I whispered.
She hesitantly walked into the room and when I pushed the curtain open my mom exclaimed, "Oh my it's a girl!"
"Hi, I'm Kennedy it's very nice to meet you guys," She shyly smiled before my mom came and hugged her catching Ken off guard, "I've heard so much about you, thank you so much for coming and keeping Weston company," I couldn't help but laugh at my mom's reaction.
"First I survive a stroke, and now Weston is finally bringing a girl home, my luck couldn't get any better," My dads voice piped in making all of us laugh.
I watched as mom pulled Kennedy by the arm to go sit by her on the couch, already asking her a bunch of questions. I admired Ken as her cheeks grew that rose color and her fingers play with the end of her hair because she is nervous.
I never though I would bring home a girl.
After an hour of all of us talking and getting more updates from doctors, they told us my dad would be able to go home tomorrow morning and finishing resting in his own bed.
"Well you guys should get going, go show her the house, I am gonna stay the night here with dad so we will see you guys tomorrow, I bet you are tired," my mom said as she came over and kissed my cheek. I gave my dad a hug and I grabbed Kennedy hand as we walked towards the door.
"We missed you Weston," my moms soft voice came from behind us. I turned around and smiled as she smiled back at me, holding my dad's hand. "I missed you guys too."
As we walked to the parking lot Kennedy immediately told me how much she loved my mom. "She is so cute and nice Weston, you must get your manners from her,"she jokes as she pushed my side. I draped my arm over her shoulder and pulled her closer to me as we were walking. "Yeah she is the best, I can't wait to show you our home," Ken smiled as I opened her door for her and she jumped up into the truck.
As we drove I found my self talking constantly, pointing at different parks and places, showing her where I grew up. I think I was also just reminding myself too.
