Paradise

The school year went by with ease. I made it very clear to everyone that I did not want to talk about what happened. Everyone left the situation alone.

My birthday is coming up and sadly I couldn't get excited about it. I haven't been very happy about anything lately. Even though I didn't want to have a party, Stacy and my grandma insisted that we have one.

All three of us was at the mall picking out a birthday dress for me to wear. I wasn't really interested in finding one but, Stacy sure was.

"Oooh Paradise look at this dress." Stacy squealed in excitement as she got the dress off the rack and held it out so I can get a good look at it.

It was a pretty white dress. It only had one arm sleeve with a diamond belt around the waist. The dress wasn't long but, it was too short either and it flared out at the bottom. I really liked the dress but, I didn't get too excited about it because I knew it cost a lot of money. Money I knew my grandma didn't have.

My grandma walked over to where me and Stacy was standing. Stacy showed her the dress and a huge smile appeared on her face.

"Oh my, that dress is beautiful. Do you like it baby?" My grandma asked me. I was unsure how to answer her. I mean I did like it but, I just knew I wasn't gonna be able to get it.

"Yeah, its nice but, the diamonds on the belt are real and I know you don't have that kind of money granny. Let's just find another dress." I said as I started to walk away but, my grandma stop me.

"Girl everything in this mall is expensive. If I didn't have the money, I wouldn't have never brought y'all here." She said with a small laugh. "Stacy go ahead and find some shoes to go with the dress and pick you out something nice to wear too." Stacy's eyes widened in excitement as she handed my grandma my dress and pulled me in her direction. She started running towards another part of the mall while I stumbled trying to keep up with her.

"Stacy slow down!" I said almost out of breath.
"Girl I've never bought anything in this mall before, I'm not slowing down you better run forest!" She said as she started laughing like it was the funniest thing ever. I rolled my eyes because Stacy was so goofy and corny.

After finding Stacy a dress and some nice shoes for the both of us, we were finally on our way out the mall.

As we made our way towards my granny's car, her phone started ringing.
"Hello?" She answered as the person on the other began speaking. A huge smile spread across her face as handed me the phone.

It was my grandma Ava. I haven't talk to her since Christmas last year. After my dad was killed, she moved to Georgia because that's where my dad was born and buried.

"Hey honey, how have you been doing?" She asked me.
"I'm doing alright granny, I miss you ."
"I miss you too. I'm coming down there before your birthday. I know I haven't been around like I should but, I promise I'll come around more." For the first time since the incident, I actually smiled a genuine smile. I was happy that my granny was coming to my birthday party.

After we said our goodbyes. I made my way towards the car. My smile quickly faded away once I realized that my mom won't be there. Tears started to fall as I quickly wiped them away before getting in the car.

I sat on the leather couch smoking a blunt as heavy thoughts weighed my mind. My baby's 11th birthday is coming up and my mother won't even allow me to see her. I know I've made some terrible mistakes but, that doesn't give her the right to keep me away from my child.

"Bitch get the fuck out yo feelings. You've been moping around for the longest damn." Gina's ho ass said which immediately blew my high and pissed me off.
