The Hogwarts corridors were eerily quiet, the last few students lingering before the summer break fully took hold. Fred Weasley, hands in his pockets, sauntered up to Stacy L/N near the entrance hall, flashing his signature mischievous grin.
“So, Stacy,” he began, rocking back on his heels. “Any exciting plans for the summer? Or will I be gracing your doorstep as usual?”
Stacy rolled her eyes, though there was a small smile playing on her lips. “Mum’s back from her business trip,” she said, adjusting her bag over her shoulder.
Fred’s grin widened instantly. “Oh, is she now?” His voice carried an unmistakable note of amusement, maybe even excitement.
Stacy sighed. She knew that look. “Fred, you are not coming over just to—”
“Just to what?” Fred cut in, feigning innocence. “Enjoy the company of my dear friend? Bask in the warmth of your family’s hospitality?”
Stacy raised an eyebrow. “You know she doesn’t like you.”
“Oh, I think that’s debatable,” Fred quipped, a glint in his eyes. “I’d say there’s a fine line between dislike and… something else.”
Stacy groaned. “Fred.”
He laughed, tossing an arm around her shoulders as they headed for the carriages. “Come on, Stace. I’ll be on my best behavior.”
Stacy highly doubted that.
The summer sun beat down on the L/N estate, casting long shadows over the backyard. The L/Ns weren’t exactly rich, but Stacy’s mum had done well for herself, and the house—complete with a private pool—was proof of that.
Fred Weasley strolled up the stone path toward the back door, his bag slung over one shoulder, a cocky grin already in place. He could hear splashing from the pool, and he knew Stacy was already outside.
Ringing the doorbell felt pointless, so he didn’t bother. Instead, he pushed the door open and called out, “Honey, I’m home!”
“Fred!” Stacy’s voice rang out from the backyard. “You can’t just walk in like that!”
“Too late,” he shot back, stepping into the cool interior of the house. He passed through the kitchen and slid the glass door open, stepping onto the sun-warmed patio.
Stacy was lounging by the pool in a swimsuit, sunglasses perched on her nose. She didn’t even look up as she spoke. “Mum’s inside. Try not to do anything stupid.”
Fred smirked. “No promises.”
Before she could argue, he peeled off his t-shirt and tossed it onto a chair. “I fancy a swim.”
“Then get in,” Stacy muttered, still not looking at him.
“Oh, I meant in the water, but I suppose the other kind of swimming is fun too.” He shot a glance toward the house, as if expecting Miss L/N to appear.
Stacy groaned. “Fred, if you make this weird, I will drown you.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he said, but his grin said otherwise.
As he stepped toward the pool’s edge, he heard the sound of heels clicking against the wooden floor inside. His smirk deepened.
Showtime.
Fred had been waiting for this moment. He’d spent all year at Hogwarts thinking about the inevitable encounter with Miss L/N—Stacy’s mum, the woman who always seemed unimpressed by his charm, which only made him want to try harder.
