Chapter 28

Nadia

James gets up, standing in front of me and unbuttons his shirt slowly. I'm focused on his slowly revealed chest, and lick my lips in anticipation of wanting to run my fingers over it. Hell, I want to use my tongue. He's beautiful like a Greek sculpted god. He's got a bit of hair, but I love it. It's well maintained, and he obviously takes his time to make sure it's not too unruly.
"What are you doing, James?" I finally find the words, wondering if I should be undressing too. I mean, I've wanted this for a while, but I'm out of practice.
"Just wait baby doll. This is important" he tells me.
"Why are you getting undressed?" I ask breathlessly. I can feel my panties getting wet at just the vision in front of me.
"If we are going to have this conversation, I need to undress," he explains, and I'm down for it but I still don't understand.
"We can move this up to the bedroom" I offer immediately.
"No, there's something you need to see" he shakes his head. He fully takes off his shirt and I'm in awe of the tattoos he has. Tribal and with wolves. I love it. I want to trace each line and commit it to memory.
His hands fall to his belt and he uses one hand to take it off and I have to shimmy my thighs together because of that quick action. He unbuttons his pants and they drop to the floor and he kicks off his socks.
"I'm not complaining, but I want to touch you" I practically purr to him and he smirks.
"I'll let you touch me after we are done with this" he says, a hint of nervousness behind his voice. "Well, I'll be out a pair of briefs, but this should do" he sighs to himself.
"Talk to me" I tell him, because I'm a hair's breadth away from throwing myself at him. I can see he's hard in his boxer briefs, and he's generous in size. I want to help him with that as much as possible.
"Watch, stay and I'll explain" he audibly gulps. I watch as James takes a step back and he suddenly morphs into a werewolf first, large and black fur sprouts from his skin. He gets larger, more robust, and a bit taller. The sound of bones breaking fills the room and my jaw falls open. He doesn't even wince. His boxer briefs fall to the floor, being stretched out and tear. He waits a moment and watches my face closely before he suddenly changes again, going to all fours before he changes into a large black wolf. The only thing that stayed consistent were those dazzling blue eyes of his. He finally stops and sits down, giving a soft bark. Realization sits in. I'm looking at Fang. He is Fang.
"Come here" I say softly, and he pads over to me and I scratch him behind the ears. "Is this why you keep buying me werewolf romances?" I ask, and he gives a soft bark as though he's saying yes. "I'm just glad I'm not crazy that I believe in the supernatural," I whisper. "You're beautiful," I sigh. I run my fingers through his fur and he lets out a soft groan. I don't care if he's a werewolf. If I go by werewolf literature, having a large family makes more sense now. It's a pack that's moving here. The threat of the silver bullet in front of the store makes more sense too. So that means there are other werewolves around here. And they are right across the street. No wonder he's been so protective. Which makes me start to wonder about the tingling sensation.
"Are mates really a thing?" I ask him even though I didn't really understand why I asked, he can't exactly answer at the moment. Then suddenly he slowly transforms back and the black fur recedes until my hand is on his bare back and his dark brown hair is back on his head, and his head is on my lap, and I was left in awe as the shift happened.
"I'm not really sure why you'd ask, seeing as you're my mate," James says softly, his voice husky but even as his expression conveyed multitudes of emotions. "My goddess given mate, and I have searched my entire life for you. My name is James Grant, Alpha of the Rosemoon pack, and you are my Luna, my other half. It's why I kept buying you the books, I wanted you to understand to see that I was able to provide a happy life for you in a simple way. And I just can't leave you alone, not anymore. I need you like each breath I take."
"It all makes sense to me now," I smile at him. "I thought I was falling in love with you for a reason." I didn't mean to say it, but the smile on his face and the pure relief that is there is worth the small slip up.
"I fell in love with you the moment I saw you and we made eye contact. I knew without a shadow of a doubt you are my mate, my beloved, my everything" James takes my hands and kisses them. "You're taking this so well" he says, kissing my hands again.
"I know you'd never hurt me" I tell him honestly.

James

I've never been so relieved in my entire life. She didn't scream, she didn't run. She just looked at me and watched as I transformed in front of her. The way the expression of understanding dawned on her face, the affection remained the same. For a human, I'm surprised she didn't go running and screaming or at least flinch. But she didn't. Her jaw had gone slack for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. Then she said the sweetest words I've ever heard in my life. "I thought I was falling in love with you for a reason". I'll give her time to come to terms with her feelings, but for now, I'm going to enjoy the relief while I have it.
"Wait, am I the reason you moved here?" realization dawns on her and I chuckle.
"I was looking for a new place for my pack, seeing you cemented that decision. The two packs around my old territory were starting a war and it was spilling onto my pack lands. I didn't want to risk my pack's safety, and honestly... we needed to get away from there. The new packs here are not at war with each other, and they respect boundaries. There's even business dealings across the packs, and I signed off on making sure that continues" I stay down on the floor because even the sight of her makes me hard, and this is a serious conversation. "You can't tell anyone that werewolves exist" I tell her pleadingly.
"No way, it's not my secret to tell" she shrugs.
"It might be one day" I say, and I can hear the hopeful lilt in my voice.
"You're serious?" she says in surprise.
"As a heart attack" I nod. "When the time comes, it will be your choice, no matter what Fang says" I grin.
"So there's like, two of you in one body?" Nadia seems curious.
"Two souls, yes. One is mine, and the other is my werewolf half, Fang," I explain. "Fang and I have been leaving our scent all over the store to stop the rogues from attacking your little shop, but it's not exactly working. That's how I caught the one rogue when we worked late that night. Fang and I worked together to catch him. When you change, you'll have your own wolf too" I smile, and she blushes.
"I'm not sure I'm ready for someone else to be in my head yet" she gives a soft giggle.
"There's benefits to it" I shrug. "But then again, it's all I've ever known" I add. "I'll also be able to sense your urges and mind link with you because you are my mate," I grin wolfishly. She flushes and shimmies in her seat.
"All my urges?" she asks a little breathlessly and all I want to do is kiss her.
"Especially the carnal ones" I wink at her and she giggles.
"You've already got that down pat" she runs her fingers through my hair and I let out a mixture between a moan and a groan. It feels so good, almost too good. I reach up and grab the blanket and hurriedly wrap it around my hips before standing up, then sitting on the couch beside her. She starts tracing my tattoos with the tip of her finger and I shiver. I want her to touch me more. I need it.
"Can I kiss you?" I ask, my voice lowered to almost a whisper.
"I'd be disappointed if you didn't" she looks at me with hooded eyes and I adjust my angle as I put my hands on either side of her face and look at her mesmerised for a moment. She's so beautiful, and she's all mine. I lean in and brush my lips against hers and she lets out a soft moan and starts leaning into me more. The tingles that come out every time our lips connect is magical. I wish Sam would have told me how amazing it is to kiss your mate with no hesitation and no secrets. I've wanted this from the moment I met her.
I lick her lips before sucking her bottom lip in between my teeth and give her a soft nip. I can tell she likes it from the moan that escapes her. She moves closer to me and I slip my tongue between her lips. I kiss her like a man starved and she's the only thing that can stave my hunger. I run my hands up and down her arms and she easily gives into me. She's the most perfect, perfect mate. My Luna. My everything.
I hear the sound of glass breaking and we pull apart quickly. The store alarm goes off and Nadia jumps up before me. I grab my pants and pull them on, having to go commando and race after her as she flies down the stairs. She's just reaching the employee door, when I catch up to her. She hauls open the door and she gasps and almost breaks down in tears.
"NO!" she screams out as I spot a rogue throwing gasoline just inside where Potions is. I can smell him from here. I don't even think but change form and give chase before he drops the lit match. "James!" she screams out, but it's too late. Fang is in charge at this point. He was going to hurt our mate, and it's time that they paid for it.
The floors flooded with gasoline as my paws go over them. I launch myself at the rogue who phases as well, leaving his rags left of clothes behind. He starts making his way across the street, but he's no match for the Alpha of the Rosemoon pack. I'm big, and I'm fast. Sirens fill the air as police cars start making their way to the store. He's not getting away, I've decided on that much.
Just as I'm about to catch the son of a bitch that tried to burn down her beautiful store, I hear my Nadia scream. I stop in my tracks and turn, only to see that she's being thrown into a black van. My packmates are on the way, but I only have a moment to make a decision.
I choose to chase the van.
