Chapter 21
James
My little mate is dead asleep when I pull away and get out of bed. I pat Melody on the head, and pull the covers up the rest of the way to make sure that Nadia is completely covered. I tip toe out of the room and head downstairs and grab my coffee cup off of the counter and take a sip. Her little moans and grinding against me almost put me over the edge again. I had to start naming nearby packs in my head to stop myself from coming in my pants again. The sounds she makes in the throes of pleasure are permanently cemented in my brain. I never want to forget. But those are for my ears, and mine alone. In time she will learn that as well. I check my phone and see the groceries are outside and I hurry downstairs to see Jenny bringing them in and putting them in the center of the main store room.
"Oh, thank you!" I say to her gratefully.
"This is way more than her fridge will hold" Jenny comments off handedly.
"Then it's a good thing there are two of us to go through it" I grin and help her bring in the last of the groceries. She looks at the four clamshells of strawberries and chuckles.
"She's going to be happy at least. I was just finishing up, did you two need anything before I go?" she asks me expectantly.
"No, I already got her to go to sleep. I'm going to go upstairs and make her something to eat for when she wakes up" I shake my head. "Maybe prepare her some dessert as well" I think softly to myself.
"Just be careful with her. She's been hurt a lot in the past, I'd hate to see her hurt again" Jenny gives me a gentle warning. "My wife Lar wouldn't mind visiting me in a prison" she adds darkly.
"I'm more worried that she will accept me," I say offhandedly.
"She's the last person I would be worried about in regards to accepting people, she's a good person in my opinion" Jenny shrugged, as though accepting me would be that easy. What if she knew that I am something that some would consider to be a nightmare come true. Then again, my little mate does appreciate the werewolf romance novels. Maybe it's not too much to hope for.
I bring up the groceries three boxes at a time, being careful not to make too much noise as I move in her apartment. Melody comes out to give me a pitiful meow, and I open a can of wet food for her. She's been a good girl and certainly deserves it. She barely has made any complaints in regards to me being in her space so far, which is promising.
Jenny was right, not all of the food fits in the fridge, regardless of how I try to fit it in. I finally give in and start making supper, hoping that it would free up some space. I don't know if she would take kindly to me buying her a second fridge. Although, I'm not sure where I would fit it. She's got so many books. Maybe a larger fridge?
I start making her supper. It's a seafood chowder, with a long platter full of fresh cut fruits, and pieces of various cheeses. I also make a dip for the fruits with vanilla yogurt and nutella. It's perfectly chocolatey, and the right thickness for dipping fruit so it doesn't drip off. I add the vegetable platter to the center of the table with a blue cheese dressing for a dip, and pour two glasses of rose wine. My ears twitch as I hear the padding of feet slowly coming down the stairs just as I'm finishing.
"How are you feeling?" I ask, turning to see my Nadia standing there in a pair of shorts that have a cartoon print of coffee cups and books on it, and a white tank top. Her hair is up in a messy bun, and her cheeks are a bit rosy.
"A little better" she gives a smile. "Did you make this?" she gestures to the table completely set with my efforts and two bowls filled to the brim.
"Yes, I thought you could use some soup" I give a wolfish grin. "I was just about to grab the rolls" I add, reaching for the rolls and butter to go with supper.
"No man has ever cooked for me before" she says with a bit of reverence.
"Then I shall be the one and only to do so" I reach out my hand for her as she walks towards me. She takes my hand and gives a sigh and I bring her hand up to my lips and I kiss her knuckles.
"You know, I should be the one cooking for you" she sighs. "You've done so much for me."
"I want to do more," I admit, although in the long run I plan on doing exactly that. So much more that her head will be swimming. "Maybe one day you'll let me" I add softly. I watch her mesmerized as she goes to take her first bite of the seafood chowder. She blows on it before bringing it to her lips, and all I can think about is how those lips feel against mine. She delicately takes a bite and her eyes light up and a small moan escapes her lips. I feel like I've just won first prize, and I take a bite of my own.
"This is amazing" she says, quickly dipping in her spoon for another bite. "Where did you learn to cook like this?" she asks.
"My mom used to make supper a lot for the whole family. Steve and I used to follow her around like lost pups, learning from her until dad took us under his wing and started taking us out for... runs," I almost slipped up. She's so easy to talk to. How do you explain learning how to be a leader of a pack to a human?
"Runs?" she echo's, like she's trying to wrap her mind around us just going for runs. "Didn't you say Steve was sick a lot as a kid?" she asks.
"He was, but it wasn't just runs. There's more to it. But basically until we were ten, we were under mom's feet all the time. After that we were more with dad" I tell her as carefully as I can.
"Are they moving here too?" she asks, seeming to be very interested.
"No, I wish. Dad died from an attack when I was nineteen, and Steve was seventeen. Mom went a few months later from a broken heart. I'm kind of head of the family now" I watch her as closely as she is watching me. She sets down her spoon and reaches out to take my left hand and gives it a squeeze.
"I'm so sorry for your loss" she says, and I can tell she honestly means it. I see tears in her eyes from the empathy that's coming from her in waves. I give a small smile.
"It's okay, it was years ago. I still miss them, we both do. But Steve and I agreed that with this move, they would have been okay with it" I squeeze her hand back and then she lets go. "What about your folks?" I ask, and Nadia's cheeks bloom a little.
"My mom is the only one in the picture. Dad was a mean man, and left when I was younger. We haven't heard from him since. Mom on the other hand is very protective. She lives with her three dogs and cats in a village about an hour east from here. One of the dogs is actually mine, but I don't have the time to take care of her right now. I think that's why I got so excited when Fang spent the night. He's the perfect cuddle buddy, just like my Daisy" she gives a large smile. "I go back once a month to visit for a few days, and Jacob takes over what I do on the extra day I'm gone. I do the same for him when he wants to go see his folks back home too. I think Jenny is really hoping Maria works out because she misses her dad and wants to visit for more than just a few hours every other week" she explains. "And we clearly can't make coffee or any of the specialty drinks as well as her," she shrugs.
"It must be hard doing this all by yourselves" I murmur, thinking about how I just took over dad's companies with Steve, and didn't have to work half as hard as they did. "What did you do before this?" I ask her.
"Jacob worked in a library, and Jenny and I worked in the village diner. We met in school and we all clicked since we were kids. This place is a wild dream I had, and we all just built onto it" Nadia explains, and I'm scrambling to find a way to keep her talking. She's almost done her soup, and she's also sampled the vegetables, but I can tell she's eyeing the fruit, especially the strawberries that I had carefully cut into little hearts.
"What else was in that dream?" I ask her, hoping for a truthful response.
Nadia licks her lips and flushes again, she seems almost nervous and she takes a sip of wine before she answers. Her thick eyelashes gracing her cheeks as she bats her eyes while she thinks carefully of her response.
"That I was a successful writer, and had a husband and lots of kids" she whispers. She looks up and bites her bottom lip momentarily. "I know, it's so cliche, but I really wanted the white picket fence" she admits. "Now I'm too busy for that" she sighs. Suddenly I am thinking that I need to update the architect that I want a house close to the pack house, that has a white picket fence around it. My mate deserves for all her dreams to become a reality. I let her sit in silence for a few minutes, and she finally finished and reached for a strawberry. She quickly dips it in the chocolate dip and moans happily. "Please teach me how to make this, I need more of it in my life"
"It's just vanilla yogurt with Nutella. The trick is finding the right consistency" I grin, and her eyes tick to my lips. "No, none of that right now" I chuckle, almost feeling the heat come off of her in waves. "I need to clean up, and find room in that small fridge of yours for all the leftovers" I lick my lips, tempted to bend across the table and kiss her the way I want to.
Nadia
"A man that cooks and cleans? You're marriage material" I quip and then flush when I start imagining him with a son on his hip and daughter on his shoulders. He's ripped enough for it.
"I will be for you, but only you" James says smoothly. I giggle because I figure he's just being flirtatious. "Besides, you're wife material. You always make time for me, even when you don't have it. You're a successful business woman, with a good head on her shoulders. You're sexy as Hell. You're kind, sweet... and an amazing kisser. I can't wait to learn more about you" he says, his steel blue eyes holding mine prisoner. He licks his top lip and leans in more before he beckons me forward with one finger. I stand up and lean over the table, self conscious about my stomach on the table itself. He grabs me from behind my neck in one smooth motion and leans and presses his lips to my own. I take a gasp of air, and his tongue is suddenly massaging my own and I can feel my panties getting soaked already at how smoothly he had done this. It feels like all of my nerve endings came alive, and that familiar tingle every time we touch takes over my entire body. The small heartbeat on my shoulder seemed to have picked up just like my own heart. I feel that tether again, and it's snapping into place. Everything about him feels so right, and I just want to know more and more about him. I bring my right hand up and cup his cheek while my left hand goes behind his head in his dark brown hair and I pull slightly, wanting so badly to feel more of him. He moans, and it's music to my ears. I keep wanting more and more.
"I better clean this up little one, before I do something else" he pulls back from the kiss and I feel lust drunk. That little show with his fingers earlier before my nap feels like a tease. It feels like he's capable of so much more, and I'm here for it.
"Like what?" I ask as I sit back down and grab another strawberry.
"Like showing you exactly what I want for dessert" he wiggles his eyebrows and looks down at my lap. I feel a flush rise to my cheeks and I want so desperately for him to follow through. "But first, I'm going to clean up. Why don't you grab one of your werewolf romance novels and start reading it to me" he suggests. I should be thankful, he's giving me something else to do. But I feel badly and want to pitch in with the clean up.
"No, I'd like to help clean" I finally say with a stubborn hitch in my jaw. He seems to recognize that this will start a fight, and he puts up his hands.
"I'll wash, you can dry. Enjoy your strawberries, I'll go and put the rest of the chowder in your fridge" he grins and gets up. My gaze falls to his ass, unashamedly. All I can imagine is my fingernails in his ass cheeks while he ruts into me. I make a small gasp at that visual and clench my thighs. James cocks his head slightly to the side and looks at me up and down very slowly, like he can sense my sexual attraction to him. His nostrils flare a little and his eyes get a little darker. "Careful little ma.. One. I'll spank you" he teases.
"You wouldn't" my jaw drops.
"Maybe" he winks and goes to put the rest of the chowder into a large bowl. I proceed to eat a majority of the strawberries and chocolate dip that James prepared as I think about all of the ways he could eat his dessert from me. My sexual frustration is starting to build, regardless of the mind blowing orgasm he gave me earlier. He takes his time with the fridge and puts everything away, and I start to wonder what we are to one another.
"Are we just friends?" I ask him abruptly and he chuckles.
"I don't kiss my friends, or intend to make love to my friends" James says without missing a beat. "We are a couple," he adds, like it's common knowledge.
"But you didn't ask me" I remind him and he looks pained by it.
"I wouldn't go this far for anyone else" he groans and mutters under his breath. "I realize this is one of your human things," he whispers and I have to wonder what he means by that. He finally looks up and gazes into my eyes. "Please be my forever?" he asks and I flush at the thought of forever with him.
"Isn't forever considered marriage?" I giggle and shake my head. It's like he's never done this before. To be honest, I've never cared enough to ask. But I care now. That heartbeat on my shoulder picks up as I gaze at him.
"We will get there, but for now can we agree that no one else is allowed in the picture?" he asks softly.
"I have no intentions of seeing anyone else, James. I merely wanted to know where we stand with one another" I flushed a bit. I can feel the heated skin from my chest to my hairline. "What do you mean by human things?" I finally ask and its his turn to flush and look away.
"I say weird stuff from time to time, don't worry about it" he says quickly, and I notice the bitemark pulse went up again. I'm starting to think it's attached to him somehow, but that kind of magic doesn't exist, does it?
