Dear Dan,
Hi there! So... You might be wondering why I'm writing to you, as we just met today and I don't really even know you very much. See, my therapist said that I should find a friend that I tell all my feelings to so I don't keep them all "bottled up" inside. Problem is, I don't really have any friends... I don't know why. I'm a nice person, I think. My brother says it's because I'm annoying. But anyway, I finally made a friend today! And that's you! So I know it would be silly for me to say all of this to your face, so I'll just write to you. I'm going to keep this letter, and then one day maybe I'll show it to you. Maybe we'll be best friends our whole entire lives, and we can look back on all the adventures we had! Anyway, I hope you don't mind I'd like to tell you a bit about myself. My name is Phillip Michael Lester. Please call me Phil, though. I'm 11 years old. That means I'm about to go into sixth grade. I'm scared for middle school... But scary can be exciting, I guess. I'm so sorry. I keep getting off track! All I have left to say is... Thank you. Thank you for coming up to me today. And congratulations on being my first friend at summer camp!
